From our School Council President...

On behalf of the Parkdale Primary School Council, I would like to welcome you all back to school and in particular welcome our new families. We would also like to congratulate all the school captains and leaders.

As set out in the previous Focus Newsletter, we are currently in the process of holding school council elections. Nominations are now closed and we will provide more information on the outcomes of this process in the coming weeks.

It has been great to see TheirCare (the new Outside School Hours Care provider), settle into Parkdale Primary.  The appointment of TheirCare was made after careful consideration of a number of providers and we are confident that they will provide the right support to children and families. However, we would love to hear how this transition is going and so welcome any feedback.

One of the functions of the school council is in relation to maintaining school grounds and buildings and this will be one of our key focus areas for 2023. This is particularly in relation to the Grade 2 building which many of you will be aware is in critical need of replacement. This has been the subject of many discussions with the Department of Education over a number of years. Late last year, school council met onsite with the local member Tim Richardson to discuss the need and in particular the impact on the educational experience for our children and teachers. Disappointingly, we have not yet been able to secure funding and so we will continue to discuss this with Tim and the DET and will keep the community informed of our progress.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help as class representatives. This is a really important role in supporting our teachers and parents. Huge thanks to Ange for continuing to lead the PPA and to everyone who has volunteered to support, including Helen, Victoria, Shane, Annabelle, Karen.  Keep your eye out for communications from the PPA on different events.

Looking forward to chatting with you all and meeting new PPS families.

Suzanne

School Council President
