Celebrating our Students

We want to continue celebrating our new house names as we near our first house event, the annual Swimming Carnival on Friday the 24th February.

We are so proud our school houses and their significance to the land our school is on.

We are also proud of our students, and would like to share a moment taken from our House Rebranding Assembly from earlier this month.

Hi everyone my name is Charley James, I am a proud Yorta Yorta Aboriginal woman.

My role here today is to pay respects and acknowledge Aunty Joy Murphy for her time, presence and cultural knowledge. There is no doubt she is a true Aboriginal elder and leader of Wurundjeri and it is an absolute honour for her to authorise the use of traditional names and Koori motifs.

As a young and emerging Aboriginal woman, I personally feel privileged to be in her presence and her wisdom, experience and status as a most respected elder and, in my opinion, second to none.

My job now is to present a small token of our sincere appreciation to Aunty Joy. This is my privilege on behalf of the Staughton Aboriginal student group.

This is a small gift on behalf of the Staughton school family and you are now fundamentally connected with us.
