Ash Wednesday and Lent

Next Wednesday, 22nd February, the Catholic Church will commence the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday.

Lent is the church season when we prepare ourselves for Easter. It is a time for spiritual reflection and fasting that prepares us to celebrate our redemption through Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence from meat. It is the day we receive ashes on our forehead in the form of a cross as a symbol of penance.

We will celebrate Mass and receive the ashes at 11:30 am in Corpus Christi Church next Wednesday. Families are welcome to attend.

Lenten Prayer

Almighty and Everlasting God,

You have given the human race

Jesus Christ our Savior

as a model of humility.

He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man

And giving His life on the Cross.

Help us to bear witness to You

By following His example of suffering

And make us worthy to share

in His Resurrection.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Your Son.

Amen.
