EDGE Job Readiness Workshop
By Ms Stephenie Blewitt, Careers Adviser
Last week Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 had the opportunity to participate in the EDGE job readiness workshops. This fun, interactive, and educational workshop program is supported by the NSW Government.
Students were absorbed from the moment they walked into the hall and presenters held their attention for the entire day.
Key take outs from the workshops included;
- Students heard from local employers, learn about careers in their organisations and found out what they look for in new recruits
- They also learn about different training and education pathways
- Received tips about personal branding, personal presentation, and communication and how your social media profiles can impact your career
- They worked with industry professionals in small groups to present your best self in areas of hair, clothing, and skin care / makeup
- Several students jumped at the opportunity to get a free job ready, presentable haircut from the qualified hairdressers that form part of the EDGE team
- Heard from local inspiring Educational Pathways VET Ambassadors
Thank you to the terrific local employers who participated in the interview skills development breakout sessions. Thank you Cotton Grower Services, SANTOS, Crop Capsules, Faber Tool Boxes & Metal Works, Essential Energy, Rick Cunningham of Narrabri Fish Farm, Northwest Ag & Diesel.
