ANZAC Day

Steph Steph Gorringe-Smith (Year 12 College Captain)

With the memory of all ANZAC soldiers in historical and current conflicts in mind, the Heathmont College Captains joined the local community at the Ringwood RSL Schools ANZAC Service last Sunday.

On a chilly morning, it was great to see so many different community groups coming together, including the army and navy cadets, Ringwood pipe band, Scouts, and other schools. We joined the parade and marched up Maroondah Highway to the Ringwood Clocktower. It felt quite special to be a part of that experience.

At the Clocktower, we stood and reflected, community and defense force leaders read poems, prayers and the Ode to the fallen. As a final part, everyone got the chance to lay a wreath on the clock tower steps, followed by the playing of the Last Post. This was definitely a highlight of the morning, honouring past soldiers who fought for the benefit of their country, which is what ANZAC day is all about. The captains are honoured to have been involved in such a special occasion.
