Prep and Year 1

This week the Prep and Year 1 students worked beautifully together to retell a very important story, the story of Holy Thursday. They were asked to recreate three stories from Holy Thursday: The Washing of the Feet, The Last Supper and Jesus in The Garden of Gethsemane. Each scene was re-enacted through a freeze frame with a narrator giving a summary of each story. This was a great opportunity for the Preps and Year 1's to collaborate and create something special for the whole school to witness.

Palm Sunday

On Monday, Year 2 and ¾ students re-enacted the Easter story of Palm Sunday for the rest of the school. The students were very enthusiastic about performing for the school. The re-enactment culminated in the singing of a song from the movie Sister Act ‘I Will Follow Him’ as a reminder that we are called to follow Jesus. We would like to congratulate all students for how respectfully they performed and watched the performance.

Year 2/3/4 Inquiry Showcase: Earth and Space

The students’ presentations were OUT OF THIS WORLD!

After a busy few weeks questioning, researching, gathering and preparing colourful posters, eye-catching dioramas and amazing slideshows, it was time to present. You could feel the excitement and buzz from the Year 2 and Year 3/4 children, as their peers and teachers walked through listening and learning many new facts about Earth and Space. Well done to all our students!

Year 4/5/6

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Last week the Year 4/5 students were fortunate enough to be present for the Sacrament of Reconciliation for Isheanesu. It was a beautiful moment where Ishe was surrounded by his family and friends to celebrate this special occasion. Congratulations, Ishe!

Hi my name is Ria and today we did some science experiments.

My favourite experiment was Static Electricity, we had a bunch of materials and we had to figure out why each material was conducting static electricity. I found out that: if you rub a towel on a small plastic tube and put it in a bowl of cut up tin foil, the tin foil will stick to the tube!

Hi my name is Caitlin and one of my favourite experiments from today's science day was rising water. It was my favourite experiment because I was very interested in how the water started rising once the candle went out. I found out that if you use a more shallow bowl more water would rise into the cup!

Hi my name is Ahan and my favourite experiment from today’s science experiments was the underwater fireworks experiment. I liked underwater fireworks because it was cool watching the food colouring separating from the oil. I learnt that if you mix different coloured food colouring there will be different coloured

fireworks!

Year 4/5 News Reports

Sacred Heart Science Day

Roery the Science reporter goes live from Sacred Heart, to see the experiments.

On the 31st of March the grade 4/5/6 students investigated science.

One of the experiments was the upside down fireworks because they wanted to see the reaction when food colouring, oil and water are mixed together. It looked like jets falling from the sky, see the image below.

  Quiz

Fill in the missing ingredient: By using Oil, water and ___________ to make fireworks.

A - Food colouring                       B - Eggs

Students Become Little Scientists.

Jaxon and Chen, Student Reporters.

The students investigated different Science experiments like the floating Candle you’ll see later.

           The Floating Candle

You had to light the candle in a shallow dish with water. Then you would have to put a cup over the candle. If the candle went out and you did it correctly then the water inside the cup would rise and the candle would float.

We are going to let the Students talk now.

Chen: We loved the experience and we got to figure out how to do it.

Here is a picture of the floating candle.

Students Learn Science at Sacred Heart

Yash, Science Reporter.

The Year 4/5/6 students learnt about science because they were very curious about

different types of science. There were 6 stations with different experiments to try.

One of the experiments was Rising Water. So you fill a jug with water and pour it in a

shallow dish. Then get a little candle and light it with a match and then put the little candle on the shallow dish. Quickly cover the little candle with a glass. Then once you've done that the little candle will burn out and the water inside of the glass will rise.

Check out light side on Youtube for more science information.

Fireworks Explode at Sacred Heart

Michael R. Student Science Reporter

The Year 4/5/6 students at Sacred Heart Primary School were learning about science. It is important for student to know about different types of science.

There were 6 different experiments such as Static Electricity, Makey Makey, Salty Rain and Fireworks. In the Fireworks experiment, we put oil in the small cup, then put water in the big glass. Then we added food colouring to the water. Fireworks began to go off and you could see bubbles of colour.

It was good to learn more about science and I enjoyed the day.

School Kids have a Full Day of Science

Mia Dobinson, Science Reporter

School students from Sacred Heart have a full day of science, having 6 activities for 20 minutes and then swapping over.

On the day of the event the kids gathered in their groups and all the groups had turns. People said their favourite science project was the underwater fireworks. All you need is oil, water and food colouring then watch the beautiful and colourful explosion.

The school students said they loved the day and hope to have another day like that.               For more information check out iNewsletter.ss

Library News

'Reading makes your world big!'

This week's displays are Easter and Anzac day. I hope the children enjoy viewing them when they come visiting the Library to choose their latest books for the holidays. Wishing all our families a very happy Easter and a wonderful school holiday break, stay safe all of you! And, read lots of lovely books!!!

AND SO IT IS GOODBYE

Well today is my last day working in the Library and at Sacred Heart Primary School, I commence my retirement when I finish, and begin another phase of my life then!

Today is mixed with feelings of sadness as I leave Sacred Heart Primary School where I have worked for 16 years and loved every moment of my time here. The children, parents and staff have made my time so very happy, I have many friends and very fond and joyful memories over these years!

The Library has perhaps been my most enjoyable and rewarding time, working with the children, enriching the Library area, sharing my enormous love of books with all those who would hear me, the children were a great inspiration to me, their excitement when they chose their books was infectious and an absolute joy to be part of.

And so, my very last 'QUOTE' for you all:

'There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.'
