Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

On behalf of our staff, I would once again like to reiterate our appreciation of your support and willingness to work with us so that we can provide the best opportunity for your children, our students, to continue to grow into the best young people they can be. Your adherence to our Covid protocols and willingness to keep your children home when they had Covid symptoms but were testing negative, has no doubt allowed us to navigate this term with little disruption unlike most other schools.

Our Parents and Friends Committee has been rejuvenated thanks to our ability to meet, the enthusiasm of our President Jodi and an impressive number of mums and dads who want to be involved in helping our school. Jeffery, father of Austin and Aylah has set up a Sacred Heart Parents and Friends App, to facilitate communication amongst the group. If you are part of the Parents and Friends group or will like to be part and have not been invited to join the App, please let me know.

Between the hot cross bun orders and our Easter Raffle, our magnificent Parents and Friends group have raised over $650 valuable dollars for our school. Thank you to all those involved in organising these two events and for all who supported these initiatives.

Finally I would like to wish all our families a safe and festive Easter. If you are travelling please take care, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 26th April for the commencement of term two.

Before and After School Care

As at the time of writing this newsletter, I am still negotiating with after School Care providers. Due to the late notification of EXTEND and the upcoming holidays it is doubtful that we will have a provider for the first two weeks of next term. I ask that parents who have been using Extend email me over the holidays and let me know what nights they will need to use after school care in the first two weeks back. I am committed to ensuring care is provided until we can arrange an organisation to replace EXTEND.

Gerry

I would like to take this opportunity to inform our community that Gerry will be going on long service leave next term and then enjoying a well earned retirement. Gerry has been on our staff for sixteen years and during her time at our school has been an invaluable staff member. For those of us who have had the privilege of working with Gerry, we have been gifted the experience of working with not only a special lady but one whose passion for the school is unequaled. I would like to wish Gerry and Keith much enjoyment in her retirement and hope that international travel resumes very soon so they can continue their overseas odysseys. Happy sailing Gerry and thank you for your collegiality, diligence and friendship.

First Eucharist

In a prayerful, spirit filled celebration some of our Year Four and Year Five students received their First Eucharist last Sunday. Congratulations to all these students and their families. I would like to thank Father Eloysius for his guidance, support and keen interest in our school and all our students.

Indigenous Stations of the Cross

Sacred Heart Parish is very excited to announce that they have been able to organise with the support of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, an indigenous representation of the Stations of the Cross for our community to remember the events of Holy Week.

Depicted below is an image showing the first three Stations of the Cross. These powerful paintings have been created by artist John Dunn.

Sherry Balcombe from the Catholic Aboriginal Ministry will lead the Stations of the Cross this Friday at 6:30pm at the Sacred Heart Church Clifton Grove Preston. All our families are warmly welcomed to attend this special event. Our senior students will visit these stations on Friday.

Vaccination hubs especially for children

It has been brought to may attention by Joane Mother of Chloe that the government has set up a number of vaccination hubs especially for children. The surrounds and atmosphere they create make the more appealable especially when faced with the prospect of an injection. Thank you Joane for the information about these hubs detailed below:

This is the booking page :

This link has the details of the state hub locations , they are called "Enchanted Forest". We've personally been to the ones at Heidelberg Repat, Sunshine Hospital Hub and Campbelfield. These family friendly hubs only cater for kids.
