Meet Our College Captains

2022

Jorja Roscoe, Social Justice Captain, Cranbourne Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

It’s my role as a leader to serve the student body, and do all that I can to implement lasting change to benefit the school community. It’s my job to be a role model and a presence amongst the college, one that is approachable and reliable.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

I love being a student at St. Peter’s college because of the wide variety of people that we have here. It’s an extremely diverse community both in culture and ethnicity, but also in the range of interests, personalities and talents our staff and students have. Everywhere you turn, there is a completely different and new experience you can be a part of.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

The person I admire most is one of my best friends, Elliot. Despite any roadblocks that they experience along the way, they persevere every single time and come back even stronger. They are one of the smartest people I know, and they have a truly unbelievable work ethic. The more I find out about them, and the more obstacles they hurdle over, the more I admire them.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

One of the key elements of my candidacy for the Social Justice role was to bring mental health to the forefront of our (collective) minds. Our mental health is often something that we forget to think about and take care of, and that vital element of our wellbeing is often cast aside. Having a healthy mind is critical in our schooling, especially in the senior years, and it is important in order for us to do the very best that we can, and reach our full potential.

In addition to this, reminding our community, and all else, that it is our duty not only as Catholics, but as fortunate peoples to do what we can to better the lives of those who are struggling.

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

This statement is vital to the goals that I have for my role this year, specifically for mental health. If we understand our own mentality, and are in our best state of mind, we can be amply ready to prepare our minds for action, in our education, and in all other aspects in our lives.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would like to say to your fellow students?

Your life is completely in your own hands, if you only muster up the courage to take hold and grab it.

Melissa Lingaya, Social Justice Captain, Clyde North Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

My role as a leader involves being a servant leader for my peers at school. It allows me to ensure all is fair and just in our community, as well as making sure all in our school is educated in helping those less fortunate than us. It allows me to be a voice for those who need it and bring attention to our College Leaders on of what their students desire.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

One positive thing about being a student at St Peter’s College is that all students are thought of as one big family and issues that may arise are always addressed appropriately. We are extremely diverse in many ways and our school is very open to new things which reminds us that we all belong in this community that is our school.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

I would say I admire my older sister Sophie a lot, this is because she is very goal driven and a very hard worker. She always sets a good example for those around whether it be school or family related, she was very well respected and someone everyone looked up to, I wish to be like her and follow in her footsteps.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

My goals as Captain for 2022 is to ensure I have served my purpose as Social Justice Captain to its full potential. Which involves making sure I am always open and around to hear issues that may occur around the yard, and to efficiently solve them. To be a servant leader to those in my school and to successfully collaborate with my other College Executive Members to fulfill our role in serving the students of St. Peter’s College.

I will do my best to ensure I fulfill my role as Social Justice Captain and act as a servant leader for the students of St. Peter’s College.
