End of Term 1 2022

As the term draws to a close after ten weeks, we can all be very proud that we made it, without  lock downs or a return to remote learning. And while the term brought us much joy, laughter, friendships and learning it also brought some challenges.

Reuniting together with friends, in classes, as a year level, as a House and as a school was at times a little overwhelming for some because we had spent so long without each other. Nevertheless we all put one foot in front the other and through our ROCKS, we had fun, we learnt and built stronger connections with each other. Term two promises to be easier because we now know each other so much better, we are now re-acquainted with the routines of school and the importance of learning within a classroom environment.

Highlights of the term would have to include the fantastic and very entertaining House Challenges from amazing races to burpees and planking, at lunch time to build House Spirit and earn valuable points towards the Rosemary Graham Shield. The Swimming Carnival and Harmony Day brought us together as a campus and we shone. Harmony Day was held a little later this year and so it became the wonderful conclusion to a term where we rebuilt community. The colours of cultural clothing, the dancing, the languages, the food, and the magnificant Staff vs Students Basket Ball match reminded us of just how strong a community we are.

Harmony Day + National Day of Action +  ROCKS

This year we combined the theme of the 2022 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, Kindness Culture with the theme of Harmony Day, building a community where everyone belongs. This created the focus of Harmony Day 2022:  Building a Culture of Kindness where Everyone Belongs. This became the perfect stage for the K (Kindness)in our ROCKS to star. Kindness has eight letters so each House took one of the letter to develop affirmations by students on how they could contribute to building a culture of Kindness at St Peter’s College. As the House Captains placed their House Affirmation Posters under each letter of the word KINDNESS the was a real sense of the importance of how simply being kind can change peoples’ lives.  A beautiful assembly showcasing the beauty, talent and kindness of our community. Thank you to the College and House Captains who put in so much work to create our Kindness Culture and to the dancers who entertained and the VCAL students who provided the tastes of the world. A fabulous day and one that will continue to build a Culture of Kindness where Everyone Belongs.

The annual Harmony Day Staff vs Students Basketball match was indeed a crowd pleaser and a fair and well contested battle between the staff and the year 12 students. This year for the first time in three years, the students were triumphant. Congratulations and best on ground goes to Mr Ross for one remarkable three pointer. The Harmony Day activities raised $1,682.95, a significant donation to Project Compassion. Well done everyone.

ROSEMARY GRAHAM SHIELD

The ladder at the end of Term 1 sees Augustine in the lead but fierce competition is looming with many activities planned for Term 2. The House lunchtime activities are making a difference to the score board, so next term be in it to win it. Thanks to all the House Captains and House Leaders for the hours of work that go into ensuring students have great activities at lunchtime.

Term 2 In focus Organisation and Collaboration from ROCKS.

For many students it has taken much of the term to get back into the routine of school, which includes, being on time for Tutor Group and classes, wearing the correct uniform every day, having all the materials required for classes and working together with their peers and teachers in a positive and productive manner.  Term one was about Respect and Kindness, now we add Organisation and Collaboration and by putting these together Safety leads us to our ROCKS.

Term two, everyone must be Organised and Collaborative in all aspects of school life. Strikes will be issued for students who are late without a notice or valid reason and uniform infringements issued for those students who are not willing to comply with the uniform requirements. Once a student has three strikes an afternoon detention is issued. Each student has a choice to make, strike or no strike.

I do want to make it very clear that fake eye lashes, fake nails, and beards are just not part of our uniform code. The Blazer must be worn to and from school and whilst we know there have been issues with the supply of Blazers, many of our students are simply choosing not to wear the blazer.

Parents and guardians please support the College and your child by insisting that they are on time for school and wearing their uniform with pride. Let us set the standard high.

Finally, thank you for your continued support and I wish you all a very blessed Easter. May you find rest, relaxation, and joy during this most blessed time.
