Addressing a Problem

On June 10, former Chancellor of the University of Tasmania (2006-2012) and former Director of Public Prosecutions (1999-2007),  Damian Bugg AM QC (SVC 1958-63), pictured above, was commissioned by the Tasmanian Government to conduct a review of the Public Trustee in Tasmania. The review was commissioned in the light of a ‘slew of after ‘a slew of disturbing cases made their way into the media and to the state government’. 

 

Damian presented his review on the November 30 2020 with an overview ‘that the Public Trustee in Tasmania has misunderstood its role for more than 20 years and is perceived as lacking empathy by many of those whose lives it affects’. There are about 1 300 Tasmanians living under the administration of this body. The review carried with its 28 recommendations.

 

Further to this, Todd Kennedy (SVC 1987-92), has since been appointed by the Tasmanian Premier as CEO of the Public Trustee, and he will be responsible for overseeing the Public Trustee’s response to the recently completed review undertaken by Mr Damian Bugg .

 

Mr Kennedy has extensive knowledge in the fields of financial planning and wealth management in Tasmania and brings more than 15 years’ experience to the role.

 

Most recently, he has served as the Acting General Manager of Wealth Management at MyState, along with other roles within MyState and Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees. Todd gained a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Tasmania – with a double major in Marketing and Human Resources.
