MATER DEI SUPPORTS CATHOLIC MISSION FUNDRAISING FOR GHANA

Last week, on Wednesday 30 October, our Student Representative Council, supported by our new Year 12 Student Leadership Team hosted a ‘Walk in someone else’s shoes’ day, where students wore mufti socks and made a gold coin donation in Homegroup.

Our new Year 12 Students demonstrated wonderful leadership skills; baking cakes and slices and making lolly bags to support our cake stall at recess. We had a hugely successful response to our fundraising making over $550 on the day. These funds, along with the proceeds of our House fundraising through Community Days, will be forwarded onto Catholic Mission for their global fundraising effort to support Ghana. We are most grateful for the generosity of our students, families and community, who make these contributions possible.

YEAR 8 REFLECTION DAY

Year 8 Reflection Day was led by ‘Your Choicez’ and a series of gender focused workshops were designed to support students as they navigate relationships within our complex, digital world. Students worked with David and Katie Kobler throughout the day, as they explored the concept of healthy relationships within our contemporary world.  The ‘Who We Are Program’ for boys and girls helped students gain insight into how their online choices can affect their brain and their behavior. With the use of multi-media, powerful stories, and research based evidence, Choicez explored the real issues our students are facing and provided compelling strategies to support positive interactions both online and offline.

YEAR 12 COMMITMENT MASS

On Tuesday, we held our Year 12 class of 2020 Commitment Mass gathering for a Eucharistic Celebration to symbolise their commitment to the areas of academic learning, faith and care, sport, culture and the arts, commitment to their relationships with family members, peers and the College community. Students, Staff and the College Leadership prayerfully reflected on the love God has for each one of us, along with the abiding love modelled by Mary, our College Patron.

Held for the first time in the Marian Centre, it was a very special Mass which focussed on love of neighbour; beckoned the qualities of the holy spirit and strengthened the Student’s bonds of togetherness. We were grateful to have the spiritual leadership of Fr John, who lead the Mass and blessed our Students as they embark upon their HSC journey.

“May this oil be, in sign and symbol, a mark upon your forehead to symbolise your leadership journey at Mater Dei Catholic College.

We pray you will demonstrate servant leadership and commitment to the College values and ideals, supporting the College motto ‘Live God’s Message’. We ask God’s blessing and peaceful presence to be with you today and always.”
