Top Arts Excursion 2022

This week Year 11 Students studying Studio Arts travelled to the city for a full day of exploring the art world. We first went to the National Gallery of Victoria Australia (NGVA) and examined a range of engaging contemporary Indigenous Australian artworks. Then we learnt through a talk held by the curator about how the Top Arts Exhibition is the only annual exhibition held in the NGV and how students work is chosen based on a rigorous selection criterion. Students then viewed the Top Arts Exhibition which showcases high level VCE Studio Arts and Art work from across the state, and we were all very impressed.

In the afternoon we ventured to the National Gallery of Victoria International (NGVI) and discovered the vast array of ideas and materials presented in the QUEER exhibition. This exhibition of works from the NGV Collection spans historical eras and diverse media including painting, drawing, photography, decorative arts, fashion, video, sculpture, and design and explores queerness as an expression of sexuality and gender, a political movement, a sensibility, and as an attitude that defies fixed definition. It was a thoroughly engaging exhibition enjoyed by all.

Thanks go to Mr Christopher Henson for organising the day and creating a jam-packed schedule. It was a joy to discuss art and life with all the Year 11 Studio Arts students.

Art Space

We have been pleased with the  attendance at Art Space, with students across Years 7-10 joining us. It has been a lot of fun.   We created pieces that were inspired by Aboriginal Dot Paintings, and we added our own twists to some, they all turned out wonderful. Thank you to all participants for coming and creating a welcoming environment.
