The  John XXIII College Year 8 team  has  made the state final in the Society and Environment section of the Creative Edge Challenge at Curtin University next Saturday. Congratulations to Luisa Parish, Amelia Watts, Zoe McIlree, Elsie Samson, Jennifer Ong and Poppy Hartfield on a wonderful achievement, making the final after regional rounds have been completed in the north-west, south-west and Perth regional areas of the state.

They will be competing against teams from Iona and Chisholm Colleges. Also outstanding was the Year 7 team of Charlie Pronk, Noa Mintz, Joy Cho, Catherine Gazia, Phoebe Walsh and Sasha Pallis. This team won honours and narrowly missed the state final competing against many Years 8 and 9 teams.  Finally, the Year 9 team of Tom Syminton, Gemma Bailey, Meg Cleary, Amber Armstrong, Sky Pineda Beasley and Asha Paton deserve special commendation for a very fine performance in the Perth regionals after multiple injuries and illnesses repeatedly interrupted preparations.

Our British Parliamentary teams will compete over the next two weekends,  with Meg Derbyshire and Asha Paton competing this weekend at Shenton College and Tom Syminton, Jacob Davila, Joy Cho and Imogen Thompson competing next weekend. Good luck to these fine John XXIII College representatives.

The  Year 7 grand final is the only division still to be finalised in the John XXIII Chess Championships. Results will be published next week. Next week nominations will be called for two major interschool events next term – Ethics Olympiad and International Debating which the school competed in for the first time last year.
