RU OK?

This week we celebrated RU OK day with a special Secondary School assembly on Thursday. A highlight was the superb words from our students as they emphasised the importance and significance of asking this question. In next week’s Newsletter, we will share an extract from the excellent student presentations. The recent global challenges present even more reason to consider the wellbeing of ourselves and others.

The national day of action reinforces the importance of staying connected with family, friends and colleagues through life’s ups and downs, big or small. Our future strategic planning will have a strong focus on wellbeing.

We have some excellent structures to support student and staff wellbeing in place but there remains room for improvement and enhancement. The significant role of the Classroom Teacher and Homeroom Teacher is complemented by our Primary Assistant Principals, Assistant Deputy Principals (ADPs) and House Coordinators. The roles of our Primary School Counsellor and Secondary School Psychologists are increasingly important.

Recently, we have reviewed how we receive and act upon feedback and suggestions from our whole community. We have added a ‘Feedback’ link to our College website (under Contact Us). We are committed to ensuring everyone is heard in the event of a complaint, and we love to share positive feedback with those involved. Members of our community are welcome to use the feedback tab. This is a new initiative but certainly does not replace other means of communication with the College. Often a face-to-face meeting or a phone call is more appropriate.

At enrolment interviews I stress to families that we are always seeking improvement. Listening to our young people expressing their views at this week’s assembly was extremely gratifying. There is much wisdom within our student community.
