YEAR 12 WORK EXPERIENCE

Amelia.Raper@education.wa.edu.au

Term 3

During this term students have either chosen another employer or decided to remain at the current business.  We gave the students some questions to answer on why they chose the area to do the work experience and what they think.

Student Name: Dallas Johnson

Business Name: Old Dog Dirt and Diesel

  1. What are your main tasks? Heavy diesel work on trucks, tractors and other Ag equipment.  I also help with light vehicle servicing.
  2. What hours do you work? I work a 8 hour day.
  3. How many people do you work with?  I work with 3 mechanics and a 2nd year apprentice.
  4. What is the best part of the work that you are doing? I really enjoy the variety of work.  In the morning I could be doing a basic service on a car, then go to service a tractor on site, then be working on a truck.
  5. What is your least favourite task and why? Nothing.
  6. Do you think that being at the Ag school has helped with the work that you are doing?  Yes, the Ag school has helped me heaps with being able to work longer hours and to be more independent.
  7. Why (what skills that you have learned have helped you – welding, auto, farm etc)?  I have a good knowledge of basic automotive systems from school and fabrication which is very helpful where I’m working.

Year 10 Work Experience

This week all Year 10 students had a meeting and were given information on the upcoming Work Experience block.  They now have a form that needs to be returned by the 13th October (or sooner, if you know all the details).  We will also be emailing this form home to parents for your information.

Please note there are 3 different options available:

Option 1:  Week 9 is compulsory - Monday 6th – Friday 10th December.

Option 2:  Week 10 (optional) - Monday 13th – Thursday 16th December (to be with a                           different employer to week 1).

Option 3:  Both weeks from Monday 6th – Thursday 16th December (to be with the same                     employer for both weeks).

Depending on the type of placement and location, the College may need to review if we are able to support this placement while meeting the Department of Education Policy and Procedures.  In some circumstances students may be able to arrange this as private work experience.

Please contact Mrs Raper by email or call 0428 663 341 if you have any queries or concerns regarding this.
