Book Week at St Fidelis
We are fortunate enough in this country to have access to lots of books and resources to help children develop a love of reading and books. The theme this year, Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds, encourages us to think about how stories can take us to other worlds and develop our imagination. The importance of reading is critical in children's development in oral language and writing.
Just in case you missed the special announcements on FB live on Friday, we have organised several events to celebrate book week this week.
BOOK WEEK COSTUME IDEAS - Happy Book Week 2021! Adrian Beck
Fellow parents, we have enough to worry about right now! I get it. So, if your children are doing a real life or virtual Book Week parade, here are some relatively simple suggestions for a costume based on my books, ‘Derek Dool’, ‘Stop the Dad Jokes!’ or ‘Little Legends.’
We look forward to seeing all our students and teachers in their costumes on Friday. Let's try and keep our Yellow Hat thinking going. Stay well.
Book Club Issue 6 is open and home delivery is available!
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
In response to the current lockdowns, Scholastic have added the temporary option for all parents to have their orders sent directly to their homes. This option will enable you to place and receive orders while your children are undertaking schooling at home. The home delivery option can be selected by parents at the time of ordering for $7.50. Orders close on Wednesday September 1.
I hope you are all managing with working from home and completing the maths tasks assigned.
The students I worked with this week have done some amazing maths thinking. The Foundations with counting back, the juniors in counting on with money amounts, the middles with solving perimeter problems and the seniors with division of decimals in real life contexts.
I am adding a few photos to show how great their work was.
Students Watched a segment of 'Art with Mr Frazzetto' and in this Art and STEM task they had the opportunity to Think Outside the Box, be Creative, be Imaginative, Expressive & Positive!!! Students were asked the following question...> Ask yourself what does 'Thinking or Feeling Positive' looks like? They designed, created and represent their idea of what 'Thinking or Feeling Positive' looks like in any Art Form or Element- Painting, Drawing, 3D Sculpture, Collage.
Salve! (Hello).
Spero che tutti state bene. (I hope everyone is well). Today and in the coming weeks, I’d like to give parents and children a snapshot of what we have been learning about in the various grade levels, in italiano this term and what else is coming up. This week I will be focusing on the Foundation Grades.
Firstly, I’d also like to say “grazie” to all the classes from Foundation - Grade 2, for meeting me every week during Remote Learning. It has been lovely seeing your smiling faces, having a chat, as well as learning some italiano! Keep it up!!
So...In Foundation this term, we started off with revising colours and reading a popular Eric Carle Book: ‘Orso Bruno’ (Brown Bear). Here the children not only identified and revised colours, “Vedo…” (I can see…) but they also identified various animals. The children then went on to name their favourite colour, using the sentence structure“Il mio colore preferito è…”(my favourite colour is…).
We then had a visit from a popular Italian character, whom I’m sure you are all familiar with...Pinocchio! The children listened to a story about how Geppetto made him and then we went on to learn about the names of various body parts…gli occhi, il naso, la bocca, le mani, le gambe. During the last session, the children were askedto bring a Pinocchio puppet to our Google meet...It’s amazing how popular he is!! (I did take a photo of both grades but I apologise, I must have not saved FLW’s photo, so there isn’t a whole class photo to show in this article, mi dispiace, I’m so sorry). Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning about “la famiglia” (the family) and how to identify the various family members' names in italiano. Keep up the great work bambini. Buon lavoro!
A presto! Signora Rosa :)
PS. This week I hope to also extend the live sessions and have a catch up with the Grades 5/6. Stay tuned Grades 5/6 for meeting times this Wednesday morning.
