Tim Richardson Visits St Brigid's

Last Friday Tim Richardson, our State Member for Mordialloc attended our assembly and presented awards to our students for the Premier’s Reading Challenge along with the DRI Ambassador of the Year Award to Amelia P in Year 6.  Following this I had the pleasure of taking Tim on a tour of our new building as the works are now nearing completion. The state government have provided a grant of $1.75M to minimise our loan to support this huge development in our school. Tim is a great advocate for our school and I thank him for his ongoing support.

Foundation 2020 - Meet the Teacher - Thursday 5 December

We look forward to welcoming our 2020 Foundation Students to their final transition session next Thursday 5 December.  At this session the boys and girls will meet their teacher and classmates for 2020.

Preps in Pyjamas

Last night, the Prep students arrived back at school in their pyjamas for a family night focusing on Prayer.  They reflected on the meaning of prayer and how it is a conversation with God that helps strength their relationship with him.  All students made a family candle, a prayer cube and a prayer mat that can assist them with exploring prayer at home.  The night concluded with a prayer session where the parents blessed their children and the children sang the Irish Blessing song to their parents.  Thank you to Jodi Marziano, our REL, for organising and running the evening for our Prep families.

Advent

The first Sunday of Advent sees the commencement of the new liturgical year. This new liturgical cycle is referred to as Year A and features the gospel of Matthew. The word ‘Advent’ comes from the Latin word Adventus which literally means ‘coming’; it is also reflected in the Greek word Parousia, which is used to describe the second coming of Jesus. So Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation of the coming of Christ into the world that is celebrated in the Nativity at Christmas. It is a time of preparing our hearts to ‘receive’ Jesus into the world each year.

The greatest Christmas gift is God’s gift of his Son, our Saviour. Jesus came bringing hope, peace, joy and love: four gifts traditionally celebrated in Advent, the four Sundays preceding Christmas.

The first week’s focus is the gift of hope. What does hope mean for us? What does hope mean for others? And most importantly-How can we give the gift of hope to others?
