Australian Football Championships

After 3 months of trials, training and practice matches, Xavier Walsh competed in the Australian Football Championships recently in New South Wales.

An amazing achievement to be selected for the Victorian 12 and under football team. With the initial squad of 750, there were a lot of talented players from around the state to choose from.

Speaking to Xavier he appreciated the advice and coaching he received and enjoyed meeting other players from around the country.

Coached by Leigh McQuillen, Xavier and his teammates were undefeated in the Australian championships. Xavier's role as a key defender stood out, earning him praise from Coach McQuillen. His exceptional performance during the final against South Australia showcased his dedication and skill, often breaking lines with his powerful running and kicking depth.

We are so proud of the way Xavier has conducted himself in the lead up and during the championships. Congratulations Xavier!

Empowering Excellence: Inspiring Day with Taekwondo Champion Stacey from the Australian Institute of Sport

This week we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Stacey Hymer, a Taekwondo champion from the AIS. Through the session the children explored some of the processes the AIS go through to solve problems and develop sports and competitions for a diverse range of athletes with differening needs and interests. Afterwards, the children practiced some Taekwondo moves, relaxation strategies and training processes. The children also enjoyed having a chat to Stacey about her interests, sporting acheivements, training regime and travels around the world through taekwondo competitions. Thank you Stacey for coming to visit us! I'm sure many children have been practicing their roundhouse kicks in the backyard ever since.

Crazy Hair Day

On Friday 18th of August, the whole school participated in a crazy hair day to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Social Justice Group and Mrs Peake decided to raise money for a charity of our choice.

We started to plan what we were going to raise money for and we then chose our charity, The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. We also decided what we were going to sell. We decided to sell wristbands and today everyone came to school with crazy hair and a gold coin donation.

The Social Justice Group sold the wrist bands outside the canteen at the start of first break. There were many different hairstyles and everyone got creative with their hair. Everyone was colourful and full of vibrant hairspray and much much more.

Thank you to Mrs Peake and the Social Justice Group for organising this fun and colourful day for us and to everyone who donated a gold coin. We raised a total of $273.

Immigration: A Visit From Haley  O’Meara:

On 17th of August Haley O'Meara came to talk to the year fives and sixes about immigration. She immigrated from New Zealand to be with her husband Ryan. One positive about leaving New Zealand, was that she got to be with Ryan and able to take some treasures from her childhood. A minus about leaving is that she had to leave her family behind and had to do lots of paperwork.  An interesting thing we got out of the conversation was that we found out that they had different flora and fauna in New Zealand and they also have different slang. We asked lots of interesting questions, and thank you Haley for coming.
