Hello Year Three families,   

Our Year 3 Willy Kids enjoyed an incursion with the Earth Crusaders on Monday. This was linked to their Inquiry question: 'What does living sustainably look like in our local community?'The students created sustainable cities with magnets, learnt about the food mile journey and planted their own lettuce seeds. It was a fabulous day of learning!!

 

‘Beyond The Bin’ incursion 

Next Tuesday 8th August the students will be participating in a Council-funded program , giving all local schools the opportunity to engage in a practical and fun program to help children learn about recycling and build connections to our environment. This will also link with our Inquiry question.

 

Book Week

  • Williamstown Primary School will begin celebrating Book Week on Thursday 17th of August with a Whole School Incursion run by Perform! Education titled ‘Way too Cool!’ You are now able to make payment and give consent to this on Compass. Thank you if you have already done so.
  • The following week is the official Book Week and the students will be involved in many activities throughout the week culminating with a whole school book character parade on Friday 25th August. Start planning your child’s costume depicting a favourite book character.

Dress Up 150th Celebrations

We look forward to our big 150th birthday celebration day tomorrow.

 

Fortnightly Curriculum Focus

Reading: Exploring literary devices and figurative language used by writers including Similes, Metaphors, Onomatopoeia, Idioms, Personification and Proverbs.

Writing:   The students will continue learning about different types of poems and writing their own. This will then lead to publishing their own poetry book.

Numeracy: Division - Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations.

Recall multiplication facts of two, three, five and ten and related division facts.

Develop efficient mental and written strategies and use appropriate digital technologies for multiplication and for division.

Fractions - Model, and represent unit fractions including ½, ¼, ⅓, ⅕ and their multiples to a complete whole. Represent and count simple fractions on a number line.

Inquiry: What does living sustainably look like in our local community? Indigenous Sustainability & Connection to Country: What is meant by ‘caring for Country,’?  How did Indigenous Australians live in a sustainable way before Europeans came to Australia? 

As a follow up to the ‘Beyond the Bin’ incursion we will be discussing how to recycle right at home looking at;

  •  Video: Where does my recycling go?

  •  What can we do to help the planet?

  •  Interactive class activity: Which bin?

 

Respectful Relationships & Child wise: Investigating gender roles in children’s media.
