St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

Galilee will be assisting the St. Vincent’s de Paul’s Winter Appeal. You can help by donating any bedding, blankets, towels, etc. preferably new. The items will be redistributed to help our less fortunate within our community. We will be collecting donations until the end of the term. Why not get a head start on your spring cleaning and also help out those in need! All donations will be collected in a tub near the prayer table at the office.

Day of Action

Galilee will be holding its first Day of Action on September the 18th. Students from a variety of year levels are creating their own stalls with fun games and activities such as lucky dips, raffles, baked goods, etc. Each stall will be donating the funds raised to a charity of their choice. All students are encouraged to bring $1 coins for the day to participate in the fun and games!

The Day of Action links to Catholic Social Teaching that students have been engaged in through Religious Education this year. Catholic Social Teaching covers all spheres of life – the economic, political, personal and spiritual. The four core principles of Catholic Social Teaching are: The Dignity of the Human Person, The Common Good, Solidarity and Subsidiarity. Out of these flow the principles of the Preferential Option for the Poor, Participation, Economic Justice and Stewardship, among others. These principles are responsive to particular social issues such as poverty and inequality, the right to work, and environmental degradation.

Grandparent's Day Mass

This week the students and families of Galilee celebrated Grandparent’s Day Mass at St. Peter and Paul’s Parish led by the Year Two classes. The Mass reminded us of the importance of our Grandparents and special friends and all the love and support they give us. Thank you to all the Grandparents and special friends who attended the Mass. Thank you to the Year 2 students and teachers for preparing the Mass. It was a wonderful way to celebrate together. 

Father's Day Liturgy

Last Friday, the Year Three classes helped us to prepare for Father’s Day with a beautiful liturgy in our school hall. Thank you to all those who contributed a photo to reflect on the wonderful job our fathers and father figures do. Thank you to all the students who assisted in writing the prayers, reading the prayers and putting together the beautiful liturgy. We would also like to thank the Grade 3 Teachers for all the work that they did in preparing the afternoon liturgy. We hope that the Father's Day celebrations at Galilee helped to kick-start a wonderful weekend for the Father's and special men in our community.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Later this term many of our Year 6 students will begin the formal preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please see the dates for the Sacraments below and the attached enrolment form for St Joseph's Port Melbourne and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park.

• Saturday 16 September - Preparation Session in O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms at 4.45pm, followed by Mass at 6pm
• Saturday 14 October -  Preparation Session in O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms at 4.45pm, followed by Mass at 6pm
• Saturday 21 October  - Preparation Session in O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms at 4.45pm, followed by Mass at 6pm
