Parent Information Session

Dear Families,

In Term Four, students will participate in Family Life Education Sessions run by Family Life Victoria. Galilee has previously used this company in the years prior to 2016.

See PDF below for year level programs:

Family Life Victoria will hold an information session for adults only on Wednesday 13th September from 7pm in the school hall. This one hour session is designed to give parents and carers an opportunity to find out more information about the class program their children will be participating in and to have a better understanding of some of the issues of family life  education.

For more information, please open the link above.

Tickets are $10 per family (parents/guardians of children only).

Please book via the link below:

Father’s Day Breakfast & Liturgy

A big thank you to all the parents who helped plan and organise the Father’s Day Breakfast which was attended by our local member, Mr Martin Foley. The breakfast was very well catered for with food supplied by Store 6. Thankyou to Mr Coaley for organising the Powerpoint, Paul Mapley for his facilitation and to the many helpers who prepared and served food. These events are always a highlight for the children and we had an excellent turn out of dads on the day. Later in the day, we held a Father's Day Liturgy that was again attended by a large amount of Dads. Thanks to Year Three and Miss Carnavale and Mrs Rochecouste for their excellent preparation. I hope all of our fathers enjoyed the day and were spoilt by their children.

School Review

Catholic Education Melbourne and the VRQA conduct a thorough external Review of schools every four years. Our Reviewer is Christine Wakeling and she will be visiting this Friday. I thank everyone who has contributed towards the completion of documents, especially the Deputy Principals (Mrs Burns & Mrs Gerecke). Throughout this process we have created and reviewed a number of policies that can be accessed through our school website.

September 8 - Pre-visit for VRQA compliance including Child Safety and classroom visits

October 10 - Day One and meeting with panels consisting of students, parents & staff

October 13 - Day Two and the Reviewer meets with a panel of staff & parents discuss future directions

November 14 - Reviewer reports back to Staff and School Education Board (the report will be shared with the community in following weeks)

December 1 - School Closure Day for staff to meet with Catholic Education Melbourne to plan  goals in response to the Review

Summer Uniform

The children may begin to wear their summer uniform from the beginning of Term Four. During the first few weeks of Term 4, the children may wear either summer or winter uniform until Cup Weekend, after which they are expected to wear their summer uniform. Hats are compulsory in Term Four.

Parent Surveys

Could I please remind parents to complete the parent survey by this Friday. These can be completed online. I would like to thank those parents who have already taken the time to complete these surveys. The results of these surveys will be reported to parents next term.

Caremonkey

There have been a number of Care Monkey forms sent out of late. Please compete the requests before the event/excursion/sport to avoid your child missing out on things. Parent helpers are needed for most excursions and it's a great help to teachers when staff know how many helpers are available prior to the excursion or sporting event. Care Monkey will send a notification email until you have completed the request. If you have any issues, please contact them directly.

Reportable Conduct Scheme

Last week I attended workshops on the Reportable Conduct Scheme and the next steps on the journey with the Child Safe Standards. These workshops were designed to support school leaders to review and reflect the Child Safe Standards implemented to date and inform the schools on updates to the system requirements and legislation. The work done in this area has resulted in heightened awareness, increased vigilance and stronger policies and practices in schools to keep children safe as they learn.  We remind all families,  volunteers and members of our community that child safety is everyone's responsibility.

Peace & Blessings,

Simon Millar
