Gold Medallists "WorldSkills Australia" Michael McLevie and Matthew Hodges
As our College mission prayer suggests, we are called to share in “...the Apostolic traditions of common ideals, worship and service”. In the week of the Feast of St Norbert, the patron of our College, it is wonderful to reflect on the many examples of community, worship and service of recent times.
The liturgical Feast Day of St Norbert occurs each year on 6 June, but this year, due to the Year 11 and 12 examinations and the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus this Friday, we will hold our College St Norbert Day celebrations on Friday 15 June. We look forward to the highlight of our College calendar, marked with a special Eucharistic celebration followed by community activities. Parents, family and friends are most welcome to join us for the College Mass, to be held at 9.10am in the Fr Peter O’Reilly Centre.
In exciting news, we were delighted to hear of the achievements of two of our senior students. WorldSkills Australia hosted the biggest vocational education and excellence competition in Australia over the recent long weekend at Darling Harbour in Sydney. We are so proud to announce that Michael McLevie, for Business Services and Matthew Hodges, for Information Technology, both won gold medals, effectively making them Australian champions in this competition. Congratulations to Michael and Matthew, and those who have mentored them in these endeavours, namely Mr Openshaw, Mr Ah Fong and Mr Roche.
We must also acknowledge our Cross Country team who competed in very trying winter conditions at the ACC Carnival last Thursday. The team camaraderie and support for each other were highlights for our team and the final result of 22nd overall was indicative of the commitment of our students. On an individual level, three of our students made the ACC All-Stars team by finishing in the top five in their respective age grouping. Congratulations to MJ Jansen van Rensburg (Year 12) who won the U/19 Division, with his younger brother Jaco (Year 11) finishing third. Also to Cooper Notley (Year 7) who finished second in the U/13 Boys category, a great first effort for Cooper. Thanks to Mr Price, Miss Alliss, Miss Fogliani and Mr Gherardi for their hard work and commitment to our Cross Country team this year.
With our Year 11 and 12 students returning to the College next week after their recent examinations, we send the Year 10 students our best wishes for their upcoming exam period. The end of term is fast approaching; I encourage all students to continue their focus on hard work and effort and the commitment all St Norbert College students make at enrolment, to always try their best in their studies.
On the Feast of St Norbert this week, we received messages and well-wishes from so many members of our community, past and present, all in their own way acknowledging how lucky we all are to have been blessed with the spirit of St Norbert.
God Bless.
