Great new reads available in the Library
We are constantly updating and adding to our library collection. This month we have sought a great collection of reads for students in secondary school. We have also created some nice new reading spaces with new couches in the library for students to come and chill during lunch, or before and after school.
Reading is a great leisure activity and as we head into the exam period, it can provide a great source of downtime for students. Come and check out the great selection of new books.
School drop-off and pick-up - making it active and safe
John XXIII College endeavours to ensure the safety of our students and wider John XXIII College community, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
All parents and child care providers should be familiar with the Colleges pick-up and drop off practises, parking rules and routines. As well as discuss and practise safety rules with your children.
Our students also play an active role in ensuring safety of others as well. We love that we have some active commuters to the College, including many cyclists. However, they have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our John XXIII College Community, and we would like to take the opportunity to remind cyclists that they should be adhering to the following:
- Children on footpaths can be unpredictable. Cyclists should slow and cycle to the conditions.
- Cyclists must ride in single file on footpaths.
- Pedestrians, including mobility scooters and motorised wheelchair users, always have right of way.
- Cyclists should use their bell to alert other shared path users that a bicycle is approaching.
- Drivers must give way to cyclists at driveways, but cyclists should slow down to ensure they have been seen.
We want to ensure that all members of our College community can arrive and leave safely. We thank you for your cooperation.

Can you help? - Secondary year group coordinators
It’s that time of year when the current coordinators vacate their positions and we seek new year group coordinators. I am writing requesting you consider taking on the role. It can easily be undertaken by a team of 2-4.
It will only require 3-5 hours a term of your time in total.
I know you've heard it before, it is really fun and doesn't take much effort. All you have to do is organise morning coffee dates and two adult functions throughout the year - normally mid-year and end of year. Roster sheets for canteen duty, staff morning teas and anything else the school requires are prepared for you and all you have to do is place them out the front of the lecture hall in February on the night of your relevant parent information night, and send out reminders throughout the year.
On Friday 30 November, we have scheduled a Welcome Lunch for all new 2019 coordinators.
I am always available and happy to take phone calls from anyone that needs my assistance along the way. Ric Del Pizzo our College contact has an open-door policy and is always available for any matters that coordinators need help with throughout the year.
We have a fabulous website for coordinators that contains a toolkit with all the information you need to do the job.
There are schedules, calendars and lists of functions by year Group, all precedents are in place, everything is well organised, even templates to aid you in requesting volunteers at the beginning of the year.
So please, grab a friend and have a go. It is a very rewarding experience and I can guarantee you will have a great time!

Year 9 - The Rite Journey
Matt Fuller & wife Naomi (Class 1994) were guest speakers at our Year 9 Rite Journey, a pastoral program that looks at the rite of passage between adolescence & young adulthood. Matt spoke about overcoming life challenges & giving back to the community in your own way.
Year 9 - Food focus
Our Year 9 students have been learning about reducing food miles and sustainability while harvesting their crops and creating delicious meals.
