“UNTERNEHMEN DEUTSCH – ENTERPRISE GERMAN” IN TERM 2, 2018
Last Friday, I attended an introduction to this program at the Goethe Institut Melbourne.
The Year 10 German class at McKinnon will be one of four national participants in this new program initiated by the Goethe Institut. This project has been running successfully in Italy and France and was adjusted for the Australian context. It supports professional orientation, creativity and inventor spirit. The program connects students studying German with German companies in Australia/or Australian companies with a relationship to German speaking countries within the region. The teaching material provided consists of three modules, which serve as a basis for a competition of best and innovative business ideas. Students will research the domestic economy and select a German partner company and following that, contacts with the companies will be initiated and established by the Goethe Institut.
Students will work in small groups, research and visit the partner company. They will work collaboratively with the company to develop a business idea, a product or service for the company. Their idea will be presented online and they will be able to observe and comment on competitor’s work and their progress. Communication amongst all participants in German is encouraged. An awards celebration for all participants will be held in November, awarding prizes to the best business ideas of the year.
A preface to this program by the German Ambassador Dr Anna Elisabeth Prinz can be found here
I am looking forward to engaging students in this new initiative in our curriculum.

FRENCH EXCHANGE
The preparations are well underway for this year's French Exchange program. The French students have booked their flights to arrive in June. There has been conversations between the McKinnon teachers and their counterparts in France to match the students taking part. Matches have been made and the McKinnon students were very excited to receive a 'dossier' filled with information about their correspondent. Some students have already been in touch via email or made social media connections. For many, it is just the beginning of a friendship and very positive experience.
LOOKING FOR A FRENCH 'AU PAIR'?
Through connections with our sister school and exchange partner in France, a young man has contacted us to see if there is an Australian family who would be interested in hosting him for around two weeks to a month between July and August. In return for accommodation, he can take care of children and work around the house. He also speaks Spanish. He wants to improve his English to prepare for a competitive exam to become an airline pilot. If you are interested, or know anyone who is, please contact Ms Kellie Dickson on dis@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au

"HOW COULD ANY FRIDAY BE BETTER?”
"Today, I attended the Year 10 French Film Festival Excursion at Como Cinema in South Yarra. I laughed, but was also very moved by the charming film L'école buissonnière (School of Life) directed by Nicolas Vanier. I particularly enjoyed the gorgeous cinematography of the French countryside that formed the backdrop for this delightful tale.
Thank you to the wonderful students in Year 10 French and to Ms Antal for a culturally enriching experience. I will definitely catch a few more films showing in the French Film Festival before it leaves Melbourne."
