INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - 8 MARCH 2018

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY REFLECTIONS
The following is a reflection from the following students (Jenna Dimitrakas, Sienna Herterich, Ramanika Nair, Lee-Ling Bristow, Evie Krieger and Xin Er Wee) who attended a Breakfast to celebrate International Womens Day:
“Last Wednesday, we were invited to attend the annual International Women’s Day Breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club of Melbourne. Held in the glamorous Crown Palladium, we were treated to a delicious two course breakfast. We had the opportunity to listen to a variety of inspiring guest speakers on a panel. They discussed various issues regarding Women’s rights, their unique backgrounds allowing them to offer different perspectives. Husna Pasha, Businesswoman & Media Personality, particularly struck a chord in our group, when she spoke about the importance of women empowering other women.
After taking in all these new ideas, our tables were left to discuss suggestions on what we could actually do in our own communities to create a positive environment for men and women. At the event’s conclusion we were lucky enough to meet Husna who was all smiles and personally gave us some encouraging life advice.
International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women economically, culturally, socially and politically. It’s all about unity, reflection and action within small communities and the wider world to work towards the goal of gender equality.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Rotary Club for allowing us to take part in this tremendous day. Everything from the food and the atmosphere to the speakers was terrific. We all left feeling inspired”.
