Pi DAY 2018

On Wednesday 14 March, McKinnon celebrated Pi Day with our annual Pi Reciting Competition. We had class champions from all Mathematics classes battle it out to recite as many decimal places of the irrational number pi as they could to determine overall year level champions.

Our year level champions were as follows:

In Year 7, Kevin Gu from Flynn who recited 156 places.

In Year 8, Aadi Dapurkar from Flynn who recited 98 places.

In Year 9, Alisha Gollen from Chisholm who recited 201 places.

In Year 10, Harry Fletcher from Gilmore who was the year level champion in 2017 and recited 117 places this year.

In Year 11, Yonghan Wang from Chisholm recited 249 places.

In Year 12, Jonathan Fletcher from Gilmore who recited 69 places.

This year we also had a Year 7 student, Maggie Zhou who recited 302 decimal places of pi in Mandarin. Well done Maggie!

Thank to Mr Liakakos for creating our first prize. This prize was made from a 3D printer and took six hours.

Our staff champion this year was Miss Brush reciting 73 places of pi, 18 more places than last year.

Points for the House Cup were also awarded for participation with Gilmore finishing in first place, followed by Chisholm, Flynn and Monash. Well done Gilmore!

Congratulations to all participants. Thank you to all who helped out and came along on the day.

We look forward to Pi Day next year!
