Cudmore Shield

On November  30,  Year 7/8 Boys and Girls teams took on Wade and Griffith High in twenty20 cricket games as part of the Cudmore Shield competition. The girls fought hard but were defeated by a strong Wade High team by 14 runs despite the efforts of Isabella Salmon 15 not out and Tegan Aloisi 1/4. In their first game the boys bowled well to restrict to Wade High to 101 thanks to some tight bowling from Connor Sully 2/14. In reply many of the boys failed to fire however as we were bowled out for 68 despite the efforts of Jacob Testoni 16 and Taine Moraschi 15. In the final game of the day the Marian boys posted a more than competitive total of 5/137 with knocks from Ryan Bock of 52 not out and Sam Irvin 28. The Griffith High team proved up to the task chasing down the total with overs to spare even with Sam Irvin claiming 2/18.

Sports Awards

This morning’s awards ceremony is a step in acknowledging the talent, commitment and effort of our students in 2017. Students will be acknowledged in one of two ways:

Firstly, for their outstanding skill and sportsmanship whilst representing Marian in a Representative Team. These students are either selected by their peers, coaches or officials under the categories of:

Best and Fairest

Coaches Award

Secondly, it is important to recognise students who have gained representative selection in either: a Riverina or Diocesan Team competing at CCC; a Combined Catholic Colleges Team competing at All Schools State Championships or as part of the NSW All Schools Team competing at Nationals.

With the awardee receiving a:

  • Bronze Medallion for selection in a Diocesan or Riverina Team,
  • Silver Medallion for selection in a Combined Catholic Colleges State Team and a
  • Gold Medallion for selection in an NSW All Schools Team

In 2017 Marian has had 28 Representative Teams competing in 12 competitions.

Marian has also had 65 students eligible to represent in a Riverina or Diocesan Team, 4 students who have represented in a CCC Team and 1 students represented in a NSW All Schools Team at National level. I would like to congratulate the following for achieving their personal goals.

Firstly, the following students excel in sports in which their only pathway is through individual selection. To be eligible for this, the student needs to apply through myself, Principal and Catholic Schools Office representative, to seek approval to attend selections at this level and then register and make their own way to these selections.

Whilst, these students did not gain selection in their chosen sport at CCC, they represented Marian and the Wagga Diocese at a high level and are the top students at Marian in their respective sports and hence, deserve recognition for their contribution over the years:

Two students, who despite this difficult selection process, went on to represent in their chosen sport. Congratulations to:

Before I conclude, I would also like to acknowledge the parents and coaches that enable our students to achieve these goals. As a parent and a coach, I am fully aware of the travel, time and expense involved for a child to be competing at these levels; and on behalf of the students, I would like to thank you for your continued support.
