Counsellor/Wellbeing News

Hello everyone, well my time at Marian is at an end and therefore, making way for a new College Counsellor in 2018. Therefore, with that, the focus will be a “farewell” message to everyone.

The first thing people ask me is “what am I doing for work next year”? For the people that don’t know, in addition to Marian Catholic College I also work within Catholic Primary Schools diocese therefore, I will continue working as school counsellor/wellbeing practitioner providing counselling support to student, teacher, parents and community. Furthermore, I will be joining the team at “Headspace” in Griffith in 2018 as Mental Health Clinician for a few days a week. Within that role, I will also be providing outreach mental health support to a number of rural and remote communities, individuals and schools, so I will continue to be a busy person next year.

There have been a few students that I have had received counselling support here at Marian and have stated that they feel at bit sad and have said, “I’ll never see you again”. My response has been that I aim to run a few “personal development” i.e.-social skills fun/groups/workshops at Headspace in 2018 that will be open to youth from the age groups of 14-25. I will be informing every one of dates/times once this has been confirmed, and will extend that information to the Marian School newsletter. Therefore, students from Marian will be welcome to apply for the group work next year.

Finally, thank you to everyone that has supported myself and the role of SWP (School Wellbeing Practitioner) at Marian Catholic College. I feel privileged to have worked with staff of such a high professional standard and collectively as a team, we have been able to best address your son/daughter’s needs. We have continued working towards strengthening the support so that your child has the best and safest school experience possible. I would like to give a personal shout out to the “office ladies”, and I.T department whose help has been amazing and has helped make my service delivery the best it can be.

Thank you

Paul Black (Marian College Counsellor 2016, 2017)
