Mr Irwin's Message
Hello families and welcome to this week’s newsletter,
For my video message this week I've included a video that outlines the Beloka Leadership Camp our school leaders went on with me last week.
This week I wanted to focus on some exciting opportunities for parent involvement over the coming weeks of school.
House Athletics
Next Friday, the 17th of March is our House Athletics day. This is hosted at Don Wallace Reserve and has our 3 houses, Barker, Sutherland and Tolson battling it out for champion house in a range of events they have been practicing across Term 1 in their discoveries.
On the day, Senior and Junior students will depart from school to Don Wallace at separate times. Our seniors will depart in the morning as their program takes longer to complete. They will arrive at Don Wallace to commence their program from 9:45am and start with their running events. For Junior Students, they will depart from school and arrive at 12:15 to have lunch and complete their rotations.
Parent spectators are welcome and in previous years make for a wonderful atmosphere on the day. Parking is available around the oval and traditionally parents have setup around the oval to enjoy watching events.
There's a few important logistics to keep in mind ahead of the Athletics Carnival;
After the winning house is announced in the afternoon, students will be dismissed from Don Wallace Reserve. Students will need to check in with their teacher before departing so we get everyone home safely.
As a school event, during the day, students are under the supervision and care of teachers supervising their activity/event. It’s important they are following instructions and participating in all events.
The conduct of spectators as an in school event is really important. The event must be smoke free, alcohol free, dog free and spectators must attend with the view they are there to observe their children participating in a school event.
As per school policy, photography of your children is permitted, however we request parents/carers, who photograph, film or record school activities only do so for their own personal use and do not publish the images in any form, including on social media, without the prior consent of persons whose children also appear in the images.
We have a coffee van that will be on site all day, and our Parents' Club will be selling muffins. House Aths is always a great day and we’d love to have a big crowd spectating their children!
Parents' Club
Speaking of Parents' Club, on Thursday our Parents' Club is hosting their AGM in the Mudbrick from 10am. Our Parents' Club does a terrific job in providing amazing experiences for our students such as fundraising events, lunches and stalls for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. Parents' Club is a great group for those wanting to support the school in a hands on way. If you’d like to know more about their plans for the year feel free to come and join the AGM on Thursday morning.
School Council Nominations
Finally, nominations for our School Council close on Wednesday afternoon. Council has the important role of ensuring appropriate governance of the school. It is responsible for ratifying policies, monitoring school finances and supporting the school Principal to ensure Teesdale remains a great school!
It's not too late to reach out if you are interested in joining School Council this year and have further questions about its function.
