Year 7 Becoming Brothers Camp

One of the highlights of the Year 7 calendar is the Year 7 Becoming Brothers Camp and the 2023 camp lived up to all the hype. The camp provided a valuable opportunity for students to build relationships with each other, their mentors and their teachers in a different environment.

The focus of the camp was on building positive relationships within the Class of 2028. We know that strong relationships are the foundation of a successful learning community, and the Year 7 camp provided the perfect opportunity to start building these relationships early on in the boys TC journey.

Over the course of the camp, students participated in a range of team-building activities, including problem-solving challenges and outdoor pursuits like raft building and kayaking. Through these activities, students were encouraged to work together, communicate effectively and support one another. These skills are essential for success not only at school but also in their future careers and personal lives.

We also recognise that the Year 7 camp was an opportunity for the staff to build relationships with their students. Our TC staff along with our amazing Year 11 SMT students acted as mentors and role models, helping students to develop their confidence and self-esteem. Through these positive relationships, the staff and SMT group were able to establish a supportive learning environment that set the tone for the rest of the school year and beyond. I would like to thank the Pastoral Care Leaders, the Physical Education Staff and the Year 11 Senior Mentors who attended the Camp and gave their all to ensure the success of the camp.

Throughout the week students developed strong relationships with their peers and teachers, and gained valuable life skills that will serve them well in the future. We are proud of the way our school community came together to support our students, and we look forward to building on these successes in the years to come.

Year 11 Senior Mentor Reflection

I'm going to start with a quote from Olympic Gold Medallist, Adam Peaty "Biceps for show, Triceps for go." It's all well and good to be a leader who looks good and seem to be doing something constructive. But when you boys lead each other, helped each other or did things without being asked, the SMT's and teachers looked very fondly upon you boys. So from us, to the triceps among you. Thank you.

To make this camp such a success, as it was, every boy had to give their best effort, be diligent, pick others up when they were down and most importantly have loads of fun. I'm very proud to say I had the best time with you boys and I had the best time with my brothers. These days are ones I will never forget. I know sometimes it was difficult, whether hiking in the hot weather or doing declines if you weren't quiet at night. Despite this, everyone pushed through, everyone didn't stop and most importantly everyone did it together not as mates but as brothers.

The term "brotherhood" and "brothers" is something you will hear a lot when you are here at TC. Brotherhood doesn't mean being best mates, playing in the same sports team or even being in the same dorm as one another. But when we walk through those TC gates or are representing the Three Crowns. You would do anything for one another, anything for your brothers.

Over this camp I saw quiet boys become loud, and others come out of their shells, showing their true colours. I saw boys at their lowest and boys at their prime. I saw boys having the most fun they might've ever had. This camp is a chance for boys to find their place amongst one another and to be welcomed in the warm arms of the mighty TC spirit.

Finally, I will part you boys with one piece of advice. "Grasp every opportunity you are given here, because before you know it, your time here will be up.

"Thank you for a great camp boys, make sure to thank the staff massively for giving up their time for us boys.

So, good luck, God Bless and Bleed the Blue and Green
