Excellence in Education

Trinity College Junior School is committed to excellence in education and ensuring the boys in the Junior School have an inclusive, collaborative environment whereby the students’ education is enriched with opportunities to be a part of Extra Curricular Clubs.  Some of the optional clubs on offer this term in the Junior School are:

Minecraft Club:

What is Minecraft Education? It is an online game that students use to build and explore. So, what are the boys doing in this club? Minecraft Education is a great way to foster creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills. Currently, the boys are involved in a build challenge, where they are building a moat in an attempt to defend their castle. It has been great to see many different designs and the boys working in teams to develop their moat. Throughout the year, boys will be participating in many other challenges to foster their creativity and collaboration.

Minecraft is a great tool that staff at Trinity look forward to integrating in their classrooms at some stage this year. They have great resources and worlds linked to lots of other learning areas.

Podcasting Club:

This year, Podcasting Club has launched a Podcast entitled ‘A Young Man’s Guide to Old Questions’. In this podcast, the boys grapple with life’s big questions, such as ‘Can we lie to ourselves?, or ‘Is humanity heading in the right direction?’. The boys research, both what the question means and what other great minds have thought about this topic, then provide their own opinions. When we grapple with difficult life questions, we begin to understand both humanity and ourselves better.

Philosophy has been going on for a very long time, all around the world, because people have always needed help with shouting and panicking a bit less. They've always needed help with understanding life and how best to deal with it. Over the years, philosophers have come up with a lot of useful ideas that provide this help. Here, in this podcast, are some of our favourite wise ideas…

Dungeons and Dragons Club:

In Dungeons and Dragons, the players form an adventuring party who explore fantasy worlds together as they embark on quests and gain experience. The Dungeon Master (also known as The Teacher) is the game's referee and storyteller. D&D is a game that focuses on storytelling where the dice rolled act as the chance nature of life. Everything is the player’s decision, from what they look like, to how they act, to what happens next. The collective creativity in a D&D game builds stories that will be told again and again, ranging from the stuff of legend to absurd incidents that’ll make them laugh years later. World and Character building has occupied our first few sessions and the boys are raring and ready to embark on their character’s epic quest for adventure!

Chess Club:

Chess is great for training concentration and focus, sharpening memory, mathematical problem solving, developing creativity, critical thinking and decision making and learning how to take turns and win and lose graciously.

Lego® Club:

Challenge, create, construct! Lego Club gives our students the opportunity to bond and build friendships. It encourages teamwork and communication with each new build, allowing opportunities for these skills to develop.

Campcraft:

The Campcraft boys have discovered the parts of a tent and have put up their own tents on the oval. We have also cooked two minute noodles on a gas cooker and performed a play out on the oval using UHF radios.

Writers Club:

The Writers Club is designed to provide students with the opportunity to write creatively in a collaborative setting. During this time, students can apply knowledge and skills learnt in class. Moreover, the program supports the development of students’ writing skills and may be used to consolidate existing understandings.

Week 6 Prefects Corner

By Aidan and Liam

The Trinity week started for students on Wednesday morning with sports training. We had a public holiday on Monday and no school on Tuesday because there was a teacher's personal development day, so only a three-day week in school! It was good to have an extra long weekend to relax and have fun.

This week has been less chaotic, as we had no sports fixtures on Thursday because of the interschool swimming carnival. Congratulations to the Trinity boys who made it to interschool. Unfortunately, there is no assembly on Friday. However, Year 6's have a jam-packed schedule next week as we go on camp to Forest Edge, so we will all be busy packing our bags for camp this weekend.

In the absence of the Year 6's being away at Forest Edge, we hope the Year 4's and Year 5's have a great few days without us.
