Konnichiwa! (Hello!)
Students are beginning to wrap up their learning for the Term 1 topics in Japanese lessons. From making their own Japanese pencil cases in Year 2 to researching about a travel destination in Years 5 and 6, students are slowly and surely bringing all of what they have learned together in a project style task.
Year 2
In our Japanese lessons, our Year 2 students created their own memory games in class. Students will have the opportunity to bring their games home to teach their family members what they have been learning in Japanese. To play, simply place the cards face down and take turns flipping any two cards at a time. If the cards match (e.g. a picture of an eraser and the word keshigomu), the winner of the round gets to keep them and have another turn.
Year 2 students have also been working hard at learning to write the hiragana for our keywords for their Japanese pencil cases (fudebako). Check out their fantastic work!
Year 3 and 4
Students in Years 3 and 4 have been making an 'All about me' poster but in Japanese! Throughout the term students have learned to introduce information about themselves in Japanese. At the end of the term, they were tasked with making an 'All about me' poster which showcased their hiragana script writing.
Year 5 and 6
Students in the Year 5 and 6 cohort have been learning phrases for inquiring about travelling to Japan. Last week, students also engaged in various activities and games to learn how to say different modes of transport. This week, students began researching about a Japanese city of their choice. The students are encouraged to become experts of their chosen city which they will showcase at the end of the term in Japanese!
Increasing student engagement with Japanese in Year 1!
At the end of this term, we had our Year 1 students reintroduced to the Japanese classroom as part of the Japanese student agency and engagement session. The students spent some time learning a new song and playing a few games to revise the colours and numbers in Japanese. It was great to see that most if not all the students were still be able and excited to speak in Japanese!
