Student Expectations
Attendance | Homework | ICT | Uniform
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for one begin with students coming to school each day.
Students develop good habits by going to school every day – habits that are necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.
Missing school can have a big impact on students academically and socially. It can affect their test results, including VCE & VCAL, and, just as importantly, it can affect their relationships with other students, and lead to social isolation.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
We have a minimum attendance expectation of 90% attendance for all students. We will acknowledge and celebrate students with 100% attendance at the end of each term by providing those students with a certificate and free lunch.
Schools are there to help – if you are having attendance issues with your child, speak to your school about ways to address those issues.
A reminder that classes start at 9.00am sharp (or 8.10am for Period 0). Students should be arriving by 8.45am at the latest to ensure that they have their books etc ready and are at the door of their class ready to start on time. Students must ensure they are on time to all their classes and activities otherwise they will be issued with consequences.Notifying the school of your child's absence either prior to, or on the day they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibilities.
If your child is sick or absent from school, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence (or prior) using one of the following methods:
Please note that you do not need to also call or email the school after loading your own approval, except in the case of the following circumstances:
If a student is late to school or classes, they must sign in at the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass).
If a student is leaving school earlier than their last scheduled class (due to an unavoidable appointment), they are required to sign out at the Compass kiosk in the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass by the parent/carer).
At this point in the year, it is important that parents/carers check that their children are getting into the correct habits with homework.
Students are encouraged to write all deadlines in their diary and parents/carers are encouraged to check diary entries, so that students can meet all deadlines punctually.
As all students in Years 9 to 12 have exams in June and/or November, effective revision skills are essential. If no homework has been set for a given evening, students should revise work already completed so that revision is not left to the last minute.
With students regularly using their devices to complete school work, it is important to reinforce the importance of using technology in an acceptable manner. We expect our core values of respect and integrity to be reflected in every aspect of our students’ lives, including their use of ICT. As devices rely on the internet, restrictions to specific websites are determined by the internet connection that is being used. While at school, Frankston High School’s internet connection is filtered to limit students’ ability to access inappropriate content.
A reminder that all bags must be stored in lockers, and all mobile phones (smart watches and air pods) must be switched off and kept in lockers from the start of the day to the end of the day. Students caught with their phones will face consequences. When connecting at home, the device internet access will be in line with the family’s home internet connection. There are many options available for routers with parental controls, while it may also be worth contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) - most of these may already offer parental controls for your service.
