A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Michael Kan

Term 2 has started very well, and I am confident that this will continue throughout the next 7 weeks. It will be a busy but short term.

I recently contacted families via Compass to remind them that students are to be wearing full winter uniforms throughout Terms 2 and 3. Our uniform supplier Bob Stewart has confirmed they have all uniform items available in stock should you require them.

ANZAC DAY

On Sunday 23 April, I was accompanied by School Captains Victoria Polites and Tarkyn Isaacs at the City of Glen Eira ANZAC Day service held at Caulfield Park where we laid a wreath and Victoria and Tarkyn read the poem "In Flanders Fields''.  They both read the poem beautifully and it was a very moving moment for all in attendance

On Anzac Day, Mr Serebrianik was accompanied by the McKinnon Brass Ensemble consisting of Hadyn Collier, Luc Georges, Marcel Minkovski, Malachy Carney, Alexander Pantelios, Isaac Albanis, Francis Eather, Lucy Green, Obert Han, Thomas Hosken, Arnav Mahajan, Theo Pahl, Ignacy Swider-Figureoa, Stefan Tale, together with vocalists Jodie Silberthau, Seffra Tienstra, Ruben Stein-Fooks who performed at the ANZAC Day Service at the Bentleigh RSL.

As always these commemorative services are significant and reflective events and I am thankful we could be involved.

At the General Assembly last week, we commemorated ANZAC Day by paying tribute to the men and women who sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy our freedoms today.

‘LEST WE FORGET’

CENTRAL AUSTRALIA TRIP

On Saturday 15 April, Group A departed McKinnon for the Year 11 Central Australia Tour, followed by Group B and C. This optional trip has proven to be one of the most popular events in the school program, with over 200 students participating this year.

It is a chance for students to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and resilience. From sleeping under the stars to exploring breathtaking landscapes, the trip was full of unforgettable moments. The staff were impressed by students' participation and behaviour.

I would like to thank the Year 11 Student Management team and staff who made the trip so successful.

MARLBOROUGH RESERVE

Year 8 and 9 students at East campus will now have access to Marlborough Reserve at lunchtimes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This will enable our students to have access to open green spaces for passive and sports activities three lunches a week..

STUDENT ATTITUDES TO SCHOOL SURVEY

Students have been invited to participate in a confidential online survey to be conducted during school time. The survey will take around 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

These surveys really do play an important role in providing feedback which helps inform our next areas of focus.

OLD MCKINNON FOOTY

I attended the Old McKinnon AFL game at Packer park the Middle weekend of the holidays. Our boys team had a resounding victory over the Old St Bedes team. However we were not so successful against Carey the following week.

It was wonderful to attend this community sport event at Packer Park. The girls and boys teams are composed of current and former Year 12 students. It reflects so well on our culture that students are keen to engage with our partnership with the Glen Eira Football Club after they graduate and continue to play under our banner.

CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

Tomorrow is our annual Cross Country Carnival. Students at the main campus will be going across to McKinnon Reserve during periods 3 & 4 to run, and students at the East Campus will be running the East campus course. The theme for this year’s carnival is… the 90’s. I hope everyone has fun and I wish all students good luck!
