YOUNG VINNIES' VISIT TO TRINITY VILLAGE AGED CARE FACILITY

On Wednesday 15 March (Week 7), 14 Young Vinnies students went to Trinity Village, a Catholic aged care facility in Duncraig, to have a nice chat with the residents and help the staff prepare afternoon tea. We arrived around 3:20pm and introduced ourselves to all the residents. It was lovely being able to listen to stories of their lives and share parts of ours.

Two of the students, Laoise McAleer (Year 11 Normandy) and Sinead Lydon (Year 8 Carden), prepared three Irish dance performances to provide some entertainment for the residents. The dances were in preparation for St Patrick's Day on Friday 17 March (Week 7). All the residents really enjoyed the dances and some even told us how they had been dancers themselves or how their daughters/sons and grandchildren are dancers.

For afternoon tea we handed out sandwiches, fruit and sausages rolls along with coffees and teas for the residents. I think the residents were very happy to have our company. We also enjoyed the conversations we had. One of the carers pointed out to us that it was the first time they had seen one of the residents speak - being with us encouraged him to speak!

Thank you to Mrs Hywood and Miss Moreton for organising this trip to Trinity Village. It was a very uplifting trip and both residents and students seemed to really enjoy the time spent together.
