Thoughts from our Principal - Mr Geoff McManus
At the time of writing, we are in full swing with the Mass to celebrate the Feast of St Mary MacKillop. For a school like ours and many others across the Diocese that bears the iconic title of “St Joseph’s” in alignment with the charism of the Josephite order, a celebration such as this certainly has special significance. Particularly when you consider that Saint Mary MacKillop actually visited our local convent and school three times in her life! Writing from the Glen Innes convent in 1899, she exhorted her Sisters of St Joseph around Australia and New Zealand to be “ready for any charge or any change the moment obedience should require such of us” for Saint Mary of the Cross lived a life of absolute and unshakeable belief in the will of God - "Only what you will, my God. Use me as You will". As children, staff and families in this contemporary age, Australia's first Saint, Mary MacKillop and her Sisters of Joseph serve as beacons of inspiration for us to serve those in most need and achieve our best with our God-given talents. Thank you also to the Lions Van volunteers and Super Strawberry for providing lunch and ice cream treats for the children, as well as our super staff for leading the fun and games in the afternoon after Mass.
In the coming weeks, the annual School Satisfaction Surveys will be sent to all families via a COMPASS link. Sometimes these types of surveys can be perceived as tiresome and irrelevant, especially when you consider that we seem to receive so many customer surveys in our daily lives anyway. While I empathise, I would like to encourage all families to respond to the surveys as the ratings and comments are highly valued and allow us to affirm and critique our partnership in supporting our beautiful children. Keep an eye out for the COMPASS push in the coming weeks.
Until next time.
May God go with you.
