School Values Review

Thank you to all the parents/carers that completed the survey around the school values.  These are going to be collated with the staff and student’s inputs.  The next step for us in this process is to hold a House meeting and to unpack the results.  From these results the students are going to be creating the new behaviour matrix that will reflect their language and understandings.

Green Bean Project

The Green Bean Project is an innovative partnership between MBSC and Gateway Health (School Focused Youth Services).  This term is our pilot program with the aim to continue and expand it in the future.  Students will receive invitations to attend this program.  Students were selected from feedback and input from their Year Level Co-ordinators.  The program this term is for 4 students between Year 8 and Year 10.  The students will be learning barista skills, group work skills, time management, and money handling skills.  It will be run on Tuesdays during periods 5 and 6 at the Neighbourhood centre.  At the end of the program the students will be holding a pop-up café.  Information about the café will come later.

Staff focus groups and meetings

There are a lot of great things happening in classrooms here at school.  To celebrate this and share this staff have been asked to volunteer to present these pedagogical practices with peers through running a workshop during staff meetings.  These workshops will help change some of the delivery of meetings as a result of feedback from staff.

As staff we have also been reviewing the reporting process and the results given to students.  From this activity we revisited the meanings of the results and the letters given.  This information can be found on the first few pages of the students’ reports.

This activity has reiterated the need to teach at the students’ level and that we are wanting all students to experience success by moving their “dot” forward, regardless of where it starts from.  If there is movement of the “dot” to the left it does not mean that a student has “unlearned” things it is just that the student has not demonstrated the understanding to the teacher during the reporting time.  For any further information about this please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Uniform

The student executive has been working on introducing a new item to the uniform list.  The item in question was a crew neck jumper which has been approved through student input.  It will be added to the uniform list soon.
