OVER the past week we have enjoyed some wonderful celebrations with and for our graduating Year 12 students. As I shared at the College assembly, the culmination of secondary schooling for our young people can draw a mixture of emotions – some will be sad, some will be happy, most if not all, will be feeling both.
Without doubt though, is that a St Norbert College education is a wonderful gift that, with all of the opportunities it provides, can propel a young person into their post-schooling lives armed with the tools to make valuable contributions to themselves, their friends and families and the wider community.
I would like to acknowledge the contributions of so many to the warmth, spirit and generosity that we enjoyed when celebrating our Class of 2022. The dedication, hard work and service of our Pastoral Care Team, in particular Mrs Leon Rogers, Miss Katelyn Isard, Ms Sharon Rainford and our Graduation committee of students and staff. We are very grateful to Fr Peter, Mrs Jenny Palermo and Ms Margaret Kyd who always orchestrate such lovely Eucharistic celebrations. Fr Peter’s homily, as always, was precise, relevant and thought provoking.
I think that it is important to make special mention of Paige Hale, Byron Tanner, Thayne Bridge and Holly Giles who all shared reflections of their time at St Norbert College at the assembly and ceremony respectively. The manner in which these fine young people spoke, the genuine sense of thanksgiving and the optimistic nature in which they foretold of the future as a result of a St Norbert College education was heart-warming.
And what was truly inspiring was the singing of the College hymn “Prepared for All”, not just once on the day but twice, by the Year 12 Graduating Class. It was on both occasions, the best and loudest rendition I have been witness to – a challenge for all students to surpass the standard set this year.
I’d like to conclude with a short scripture reference that I shared at the Graduation assembly, that I believe captures best my hopes and wishes, not just for the Year 12 Class of 2022, but for all of us.
“In the service of the Lord, work not half-heartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit. Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship; share with God's holy people who are in need; look for opportunities to be hospitable”
(Romans 12: 11 – 13).
God bless.
