Grade F-1 Miss Bennett

Wow! What a busy few weeks we have had in Term 4! Our Foundation/1 students have been very hard at work getting ready for the Foundation/1 Liturgy. Miss Bennett has been  so impressed with the excitement levels, and how committed everyone is to practicing their readings. All students have made a poster to share during our time at the church.

We have also had an awesome day at the Kyabram Fauna Park on Tuesday. Everyone displayed our school values while inside the park. It was so fantastic to see how our learning of ‘Living and Non-Living things’ has helped us! Especially as we had the educational session of ‘fur, feathers, skin and scales’ with park ranger Jess. A fan favourite was definitely seeing the new Meerkats and getting to touch the Shingleback Lizard; Lizzie.

Grade 1-2 Miss Hayes

This week the whole school went to the Ky Fauna Park to further extend their understanding of our Inquiry topic which is focusing on living and non-living things. Here were some of our favourite things about the excursion.

The students had an opportunity to write a recount about their time at the

Fauna Park on Tuesday. Here are some of them:

On Tuesday 22nd of November we went to the Fauna Park for inquiry. We seen koalas and wombats and even kangaroos and even some meerkats and birds. hope you like what we did.By BellaHi my name is Tamara and I am going to tell you about when P-6 went to theKyabram fauna park. We went on the 22/11/22 and left at about 9:45. We went for our Inquiry topic about living and non living things, we got there at about 10:05 on the bus. When we got off the bus we played on the playground for about 15 minutes. Then we went through the entry and then we saw about 5 meerkats near the exit. After that we looked at the rest of the animals at the fauna park. My favourites were the Emus and I patted 1 emu and I also really liked the bird avory. Then we went to see the reptiles and a person named Jessica to talk to us about where some animals live in Australia. After that we had lunch at a table and then we played for about 20 minutes at the playground. Then we looked at the animals again. The koalas were really cool and we went on this tower and we could see heaps of water around us and it was really really cool. Then we had a little snack and played. Then we got our bags and went back on the bus back to school. It was really really fun. You should do it sometime too!

On the 22nd of November, the Saint Patrick student’s went to the Fauna park by separate buses for our Inquiry topic. When we arrived, the first thing we saw were Koalas and Tasmanian possums. They were so cute and adorable! The koala was eating and possums were playing. We enjoyed watching them and reading their facts and habitats! The second thing we saw were wombats. There were actually two different types of wombats. The other one was sleeping and the other one was playing! The one sleeping was so cute and the other one playing was so adorable. Then we went to the Education Centre where we met a snake, some scorpions and spiders in cages. And this lady called Jess was showing us a Phasmid and a lizard called Lizzy! They were gentle and good behaved. We met some kangaroos, joeys, fruit bats, birds, wallabies, peacocks, Tasmanian devils, owls, emus’, and other animals there! We had lots of fun seeing them and learning about their habitats and diet.

On Tuesday, we went to the Fauna Park in Kyabram. We went to the Fauna Park for our Inquiry learning topic. We saw the koalas, wombats, birds, snakes, mice, spiders, kangaroos, meerkats and that was all. My favourite was the kangaroos and the dingoes. After we went halfway around the park we stopped to eat lunch and then after that we had a little play. Then we looked at the other half and after that we had a snack break. Then we had a play. We had a look to see if we could hold the snake in the Education centre but the lady said no. Then we said thank you and got all our stuff and got on the bus and we went back to school. It took about 15 minutes to get back to school and then it was the end of the day. Then we got to go home.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

The Grade 5/6 class have been learning about animal adaptations this term in Inquiry. They explored how animals have used adaptations to help them survive and thrive. Here are some examples of the research some students completed:

The Crow

By Connor

The crow uses sticks and stones to get into small places and reach water. This means the crow can eat food and drink water.

Dolphin Adaptations

By Deklen Key

How they use tools

Dolphins are famous for being smart animals. Scientist think that Dolphins are the smartest non-human animals. They talk to each other and they come up with new ways to catch fish. But the most impressive thing about their smartness is that they can use tools.

Dolphins pick the tool up with their mouth unlike chimpanzees or crows they don’t have legs to pick the tool up with. Some have been observed using sponges to help catch food. This adaptation helps Dolphins get food.

Grade 5 Just Leadership

Our Grade 5 students attended a Caritas Just Leadership Day at St Mary’s in Echuca. The students spent the day discussing the qualities of inspirational leaders, learning about the distribution of resources in our world and sharing ideas as to how they can make a real difference in our world by raising awareness of social justice issues.
