Principal's Report

THE 2022 SCHOOL YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE

Today we have the final school day for 2022.  We have enjoyed the return of pre-covid events & routine (camps, excursions, in person assemblies, parent involvement, snow trip, EBT, etc) in recent times, but the year hasn’t been without challenges. Despite those, we’ve made it to the line in good shape and well placed to have another successful year in 2023.  A big thankyou to everyone for hanging in there and being so patient and understanding throughout 2022.

This morning we held the final assembly for 2023.  As always, this was a large event and it was great to see so many parents and extended family members come along.  The final assembly is a great opportunity to acknowledge the grade 6s and concludes with a guard of honour, the throwing of hats in the air and lots of signing tops. This is a really nice way of finishing off the year.

We wish everyone a merry Christmas and hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer break

We have a number of new staff for next year.  These include:

  • Bryan White, Hayley Inglis Thomas, Abra Gould, Shauna Muller, Camille Jacobs, Julia McGregor, Jonelle Barber and Jess Donald who take up classroom teaching positions. We also have Sarah Tuddenham and Kirsty Robinson returning to take up teaching positions.
  • Will Georgiou, who returns to us after a stint in the Northern Territory.  Will takes on the Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator role.
  • Rachel Middlin, who takes on the STEM specialist role at both campuses and the PE/Performing Arts specialist role at Scotsburn.

All of our 2023 teams have been engaged in a day of planning in preparation for next year and a portion of our pupil free days before school starts next year will feature planning in teaching teams.  As always, our aim is to have everyone well prepared and confident in their teaching roles.

We have a number of teaching staff leaving and wish them all well, those being Sandra Davie, Shaun O’Loughlin, Bek Gear, Jess Booth, Steph Connor, Dea Osman & Dee Raymond.

A special mention to Helen Arts, who is taking leave next year, with an intention to retire.  Helen has taught at Buninyong PS for many years and will be sorely missed.  We hope to see Helen back around the place, most likely in the kitchen as a volunteer after a bit of a break.  We also have a few of our teacher aides moving on, those being Kylie Barnett, Eliza Karslake & Kim Baxter.

Grade 6 Graduation

Last night we celebrated the graduation of our grade 6s.  The weather was on our side and the outdoor stage again provided a spectacular location for the event.  Well done to the 5/6 team for their work in preparing the students for this important occasion.

As has become tradition, we concluded this morning’s assembly with an acknowledgment of our grade 6s and a guard of honour as they made their way to the centre of the oval for the tossing of graduation hats.

NEW SHADE SAILS

The poles for new shade structures were installed at both campuses a few months ago and over the weekend the sails went up.  Both are very colourful, thanks to the students who voted to select the most popular colours.  These shade sails were funded through a grant and will provide considerable shade for our kids for many years to come.

UNIFORM

Over the summer break, some parents will be purchasing items of uniform for their children.  When doing so, please make sure the items you purchase fit our uniform policy (see our website for a copy).

In particular, please make sure your children have:

•          Shorts that comply - that is, all black and without a visible logo. Not sports shorts please, which tend to be shorter than what is appropriate for school.

•             Black school shoes, runners or boots.
