SPEEDING UP TO THE FINISH
As flight JS 3300 makes its final preparations prior to landing, I am reminded of the quote ‘dates in the calendar are closer than you think!’ The end of the school year isn’t far away, and we have a plethora of important events to fit into a small window of time. Some Junior School dates for your calendars.
YEAR 5 STAFFING IN 2023
I am pleased to announce Mrs. Sarah Covill and Mrs. Brigita Keiller will be teaching our Year 5 students in 2023. Mrs. Covill will teach Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Mrs. Keiller teaching Thursdays and Fridays. Both ladies bring a wealth of primary teaching experience to the Myrniong campus. We look forward to Sarah and Brigita joining our team of excellent staff at the Junior School.
YEAR 6 GRAMPIANS HIKE
Last Friday, a rather rare, beautifully bright spring day provided the backdrop for a Year 6 hike in the Grampians. The day was organised by our P.E teacher Mrs. Louise Patterson and Year Six teacher Mrs. Anna Robertson. The students were joined by a group of fit and eager Year Six parents. They hiked to the top of Mount Sturgeon and enjoyed some quality time at the Grampians Golf Club.
Some quotes from our students:
‘A great way to burn energy. Thank you to Mrs. Patterson for making this day possible.’- Will Cameron
‘The highlight of my day in the Grampians was seeing an echidna.’- Maggie Mercer
‘The hike devoured our energy but the end result was worth it.’- Gus Knight
EXCITING NEW PARTNERSHIP
In 2023, the Junior School will partner with Vic Kids Eat Well. This group supports schools, sports clubs, and a wide range of community organisations to offer healthier food and drink options. The focus is on simple changes and healthy swaps that make a big impact. Last Thursday I met with Monique Sobey from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Foundation. We discussed a range of exciting initiatives for next year that I feel will assist in making a big impact on the healthy eating habits of our Junior School students.
PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE
Congratulations to all student who received 2022 Premiers’ Reading Challenge certificates at this week’s Assembly. We had 72 Junior School students complete the 2022 Challenge. That equates to 70% of our Myrniong students - an amazing effort! Special mention to the 2022 Reading Champions (most number of completed books listed):
Many thanks to Mrs. Kym Dempsey for all her efforts in coordinating this important annual challenge.
