Belonging

This year, an updated version of our current national curriculum framework, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) v.2, has been phased in. (The curriculum will be fully implemented next year.)

One of the key concepts of the EYLF is ‘Belonging’– knowing where and with whom you belong. This is considered an essential component in the delivery of an early childhood curriculum.

'In early childhood, and throughout life, trusting relationships and affirming experiences are crucial to a sense of belonging. Belonging is central to being and becoming in that it shapes who children are and who they can become.' (EYLF v2, p.6)

Here are some recent activities in which the children have participated, illustrating their sense of 'Belonging' within the School.

  • Participation in Book Week and its parade.
  • The annual Art Exhibition.
  • More buddy time with the Year 5s.
  • Bubble Science with the Years 7s for the  four-year-old groups.
  • Science experiences with Karen Chandler, Deputy Head of Junior School, for the three-year-old groups.
  • Story reading time with Mr Collins, Head of Junior School.
  • Gardening tips from our resident maintenance crew, Bernard and Pete.

The ELC is most fortunate to be an active member of ‘belonging’ in the Kilvington school community.
