A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

Spelling Bee

Last week we held our annual Spelling Bee for the Primary students. We had a variety of activities for students to showcase their spelling ability. Round one consisted of writing 20 spelling words,  in round two students needed to choose the correct word to complete sentences, in round three the students listened to the meaning of words and had to write the words. Round four was the highlight for many students with the fun speed challenge using buzzers. The final round  for the top five spellers was orally spelling given words.

Congratulations to the finalists:  Ayden Coward, Hope Irvine, Rosie Lee, Charles Lee and Brandan Thompson.

The class teachers also selected a student who has worked diligently during the year to improve his/her spelling.  Congratulations to Rosie Lee and Ayla O’Rance.

Finally, congratulations to our Champion for 2022 Ayden Coward. Well done!

Planning for 2023:  Activities Levy

Planning is well underway for next year. In consultation with the School Advisory Council and Tracey Klitsch, our Finance Officer, I have decided to keep the school fees the same as this year. I acknowledge the current economic climate is challenging for many families and don’t want school fees to be unaffordable. Please remember if you are struggling to pay your fees please make an appointment to see me and we can arrange special payment plans.

As part of our school budgeting analysis we have decided to introduce an activities levy for 2023. This levy will alleviate the need for parents to pay small amounts throughout the year. It will cover buses for Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country, Pool Entry, visiting performers/shows and a portion of the transport for a specialist music teacher from the Conservatorium. This does not include major excursions, Mothers/Fathers Day gifts, Year 6 Big Day Out, or Diocesan sport as these are user pay activities. Please note we are not asking for more money from our families; this one off collection replaces many small transactions you currently pay. The levy will be $70 per student for the 2023 school year. All students will be expected to pay this levy. More information about when payment is due will be given to families early next year.

Presentation Day Assembly

I am looking forward to catching up with many parents at our Presentation Day Assembly this Thursday at 9.30am under the sails. During this assembly each class teacher will present class awards for: Academic Achievement, Consistent Focus on Learning, Christian Values and School Spirit. There are also a number of special awards for reading growth,  outstanding growth across all Key Learning Areas, outstanding contributions to school life and I have the privilege of selecting two students for my principal’s award.

Have a happy and safe week
