Old Scholars & Community
On Friday 18 October the Blackfriars Class of 1979 had their 40 Year Reunion. 25 young men (in their late 50’s!) visited the school for drinks, nibbles and a school tour . The Blackfriars reunion program which has now been in place for six years in the current format, continues to flourish. The unbridled enthusiasm and pride as Blackfriars Old Scholars within the Class of ‘79 lead Br Brendan to comment, “It was the best ever!" The group moved on for further reminiscences to a local hotel with the majority present very positively requesting for the school to keep in touch! Once a Blacks Boy, always Blacks Boy!
Two more events involving Blackfriars Old Scholars are to be held over the next few weeks.
Next Wednesday 13 November is the inaugural Blackfriars Children of Old Scholars “COOS” BBQ. All current parents who are Old Scholars of Blackfriars have been invited “Back to Blacks” at lunchtime for a very informal BBQ with their sons. As members of this very special group, the boys have been given permission to have a slightly extended lunch hour with their dads. A total of 50 or more registrations have been taken for the event. Stay tuned for a couple of added surprises on the day!
On Thursday 14 November, the Blackfriars 50 Plus Club reunion is taking place at Blackfriars. Old Scholars of Blackfriars from 1969 and earlier have been invited to participate. Guests will be given a brief tour of the school followed by lunch off campus afterwards.

Annual Appeal
It's not too late to make your contribution to the 2019 Blackfriars Annual Appeal.
As the end of the year approaches, we are about to engage contractors to commence the main project of our 2019 appeal - the installation of a new video screen in Frassati Hall. This project has been made possible with the help of generous contributions from our community to this year's Annual Appeal.
If you've been thinking about making a donation to the appeal, either targeted towards the new screen or the Ax Scholarship Program, please know that it's not too late. Every dollar contributed assists the projects and reduces the call on the school's finances to enhance the Blackfriars experience provided for our boys and the broader community.
See details of the Annual Appeal elsewhere in this newsletter, including a link to our secure online donation web page. Donations can also be made over the phone or in person. Please contact the Development Office for details at development@bps.sa.edu.au or on 8169 3900.
Donors to the 2019 Annual Appeal will be acknowledged in the Autumn 2020 issue of The OPtimist.
