Senior Orientation Week - Year 10 and 11

Blackfriars conducts a compulsory orientation program for our current Senior School students from Monday 25 November to Wednesday 27 November 2019. This is Week 7 of Term 4 and follows the final exam for Year 10 and Year 11 students.

The purpose of this program is to provide teachers and students with an opportunity to discuss the course outlines, study options, and well-being information and strategies for the important year ahead.

All students are required to attend their normal Home Group at 8.40am to register their attendance. Following this, there will be allocated sessions that students will be required to attend.

The sessions will include:

  • Subject outlines
  • A summary of the assessment tasks that can be expected in 2020
  • Suggested holiday reading that can prepare students for beginning of the year
  • Distribution of textbooks
  • Study skills
  • Tertiary presentations
  • Strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety
  • Guest speakers

I am confident that these sessions will provide students with an excellent introduction to their Senior School studies. It will allow the students to commence their studies with confidence in January 2020 and provide motivation for students to organise themselves during the holiday period.

It is an expectation that all students attend the scheduled orientation program in their summer uniform. If for some reason they are unable to attend they need to contact the school to advise Mr Simon Cobiac in writing of their intended absence.

The program will conclude with the Year 10 and 11 Awards Assembly on Wednesday 27 November. All parents / guardians are warmly invited to attend this event.

Note that students will be dismissed at 3.15pm on Monday and Tuesday, however, dismissal on Wednesday will be at 2.00pm.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Todman, Mr Knowles or myself.
