Volunteer Interview

Mel Chambers

Why do you volunteer at BNPS?

I like to volunteer because it is great to meet and show appreciation to the people who teach and care for our grandchildren, and to appreciate the support of common values upheld by our family and the school.

What year level is your grandchild in?

Milla is in Grade 6 this year and I will be sorry to lose contact with this - her school.

What roles have you volunteered for during your time at BNPS?

I volunteer at the Canteen on Wednesdays as often as I can. I have also listened to reading and helped out at the Fete and the last Sausage Sizzle day.

What is your background/current role (outside of BNPS!)?

Who am I? Well, I'm a mother, a nanna and a Registered Nurse of 28 years. I also used to be a 'Lollypop School Crossing Lady' on call in basis. I moved from Sunshine Coast, Queensland to Melbourne when Tom was born at my son's request, to be a 'proper' nanna - he did not want me to be a 'distance' nanna. Tom is almost 14 now and has moved on to Sandringham High School.

What do you do during your spare time?

In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, sailing and school holidays with Tom and Milla.

What’s the best thing about BNPS?

I believe volunteering is a wonderful thing - it gives you back many times in the smiles, laughs and thanks from everyone - do it if you can - there is so much need!
