In May each year, Scholastic holds a reading challenge for families. The focus for this year is reading aloud. To participate, students download a calendar, read aloud to another family member each day and put their name on the calendar. At the end of May, parents/ guardians sign the calendar as proof and then they can go online and enter into the draw.
All details on competition entry and terms and conditions can be found at http://readmoreinmay.scholastic.com.au/
You may also wish to read a report on the benefits of reading aloud to family members at
http://scholastic.com.au/readingreport
The report looks at the independent reading attitudes and behaviours of Australian students aged between 6 and 17 years and their parents, as well as those of parents of children between the ages of 0 and 5 years.
