WELLBEING

COLLINGWOOD COLLEGE WELLBEING TEAM

The Collingwood College Wellbeing team have returned in 2019 to the exciting news that they are soon to move into two new office and consultation spaces. Once completed, the team will have a fresher and more welcoming environment with which to engage with students around their Wellbeing. These rooms will be announced shortly.

Our Wellbeing staff, Nisa Venerosa and Gareth Rego, are highly trained social workers, and have many years experience in supporting students and their families in establishing and maintaining a safe and productive school experience.

Both our Wellbeing staff work across both the primary and secondary, with Gareth available every day except Wednesday; and Nisa Monday to Thursday.

The team is also working alongside Travis Marke, in the newly established position of Wellbeing Coordinator, to continue to provide outstanding support services to students and families. The coordinator role has been created to assist with both the administration of the team's work, and the liaison between the school, students, and external support services.

Across the whole school, Respectful Relationships continues to gather momentum as our flagship program for embedding the core values of equality and respect in all aspects of our teaching. The primary school has embarked upon a rich implementation phase in 2019, with plans for the secondary school to follow suit very soon.

Please view our dedicated Wellbeing Page each week in the newsletter.

TUNING IN TO KIDS - FREE PARENTING PROGRAM

Parents and Carers are invited to participate in a free parenting program called Tuning in to Kids (TIK). The program has already been delivered to over 120,000 parents in Australia. The current study is to compare three different delivery methods of the program and to see what works best for which families.

Previous studies of TIK have shown the program has helped to reduce aggressive behaviour in children, promote social and friendship skills, and help build better emotional connections between parents and children.

Participation in the study is for any parent or carer who has one or more children, between 4 and 10 years of age who is exhibiting behaviours that are challenging or of concern for you. Participation is free and voluntary. The study is being run by the University of Melbourne in conjunction with Swinburne University of Technology. It is independent of your school, kindergarten or childcare centre.
