Year 10 Excursion Federation University

152 of the Year 10's had a fun filled day at Federation University on Thursday. They were able to choose between going to look at TAFE options at the SMB Campus or University courses at the Mt Helen Campus.

There were a number of different activities set up for students to try, both to challenge themselves and to increase their passion towards a chosen pathway. Students were encouraged to discuss particular courses with people at the university so they would gain a greater understanding of what was involved in each course and the careers they led to.

Student who went on the excursion said:

"The excursion was nice, the students got to choose what they did and when, and there was plenty to choose from, with all different subjects. The activities themselves were cool.  There was rock climbing, which was unexpected."

"Yesterdays’ excursion went well. There were so many activities that we were unable to try them all, but the ones I made it to were really enjoyable. I visited the Science of Humanities workshop where I got to be the judge and choose the sentencing of criminals. I also visited the science lab where I got to look into microscopes and see organisms and pests up close. My favourite, and last, activity I made it to, was the climbing wall. It challenged my fear of heights and pushed me to go further than I thought I could."

The SMB Campus, like Mt. Helen, had many activities. Many focused on the trades and it was great to see our students in overalls underneath makeshift floors being shown how to connect pipes. Brick laying was also another popular activity. Perhaps the most popular of all were the lovely hot pancakes and the beauty area where the students could have their hair styled or their nails painted. Many of our boys could be found here and left with painted nails and glitter in their hair.

What excursion would be complete without a stop at Maccas on the way home?
