Principal's Report

Principal's Report

At Staughton, we place importance on educating the whole child. We have smaller communities within our larger college community that are connected to the school, and each other, through their talents and interests.

I believe we have a responsibility to celebrate the variety of student accomplishment, inside and outside the classroom, across a broad range of endeavours.  We have seen this happening across the school over the last few weeks as we celebrated the areas of Arts and Humanities across the school, including a smorgasbord of lunchtime activities for students. It has been terrific to see the staff and student enthusiasm at these events.

I have also become aware of some accomplishments by two of our students in the performing arts. Cassidee and Oliver Mordaunt have been involved in the Fast Track Talent competition. We would like to congratulate Oliver on winning both Watergardens and Melton competitions, with spectacular performances in both. Not to be outdone, his sister Cassidee was given the Rising Star Award in the Melton competition. We are very proud of both of their achievements.

School Council Election – Student Council Members

For the first time in 2018, all Victorian government schools with students in year 7 and above will have two Student Member positions on School Council. To be eligible to run in the Student member category, that person must be a student enrolled in year 7 or above at the school where they are seeking to be on council. There is no minimum age requirement.

For 2018 only, one student will be elected for a one-year term of office and one student will be elected for a two-year term of office.

Student members of school council will have the same role and responsibilities as other council members, including full voting rights. Student members will be expected to prepare for and attend all council meetings, in line with the requirements for school councillors.

Forms to nominate student members of council are available at the student window of the front office. Nominations will close at 3.30 pm on Friday, the 8th of June.
